July 10, 2016: Henry on the Complexity of Superman

Warner Bros. has released a short video from the bonus material included in the Blu-ray release of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” Ultimate Edition, in which Henry Cavill talks about Superman, the complexity of the character, but also staying true to who Superman is.

Cavill is a nice guy. He seems to understand Superman better than Snyder, but this “god like” comparison has never made sense. “Angel”, if anything, is more sensible. I don’t think it’s particularly hard to write a good Superman story, as Cavill suggests, I think it’s just hard for Zack Snyder to make one. And I gotta say, the suit really looks bad without the red trunks in that shot and the video. Also, that bit where the lady is combing Cavill’s hair when he’s there in the suit really shows how fake the muscles are on it…for some reason… Read more »

While he always has seen himself as Clark first and Superman as second, the world sees him as a God. But he knows he is just an otherworldly man with extraordinary powers and wants to be human. If there is a hero who is a lot more complex it would be Batman. The Dark Knight is the REAL person and Bruce is the mask. We see Superman as a symbol that inspires hope, and less complexity. The kind of symbol that makes the better of us.
