In the latest Superman Homepage Member Poll we asked you the following question:
How do you feel about Jon Kent coming out as bisexual in “Superman: Son of Kal-El”?
Wow! I didn’t realize so many Superman fans (more than 50% of you) would be opposed to Jon Kent coming out as bisexual. For me, as long as the story is good, I don’t see that it really matters.

Perhaps you needed to do this first, and not jump down people’s throats because they do not agree with you, trying to brand them bigots?
It would have certainly helped us find the bigots more easily. But we now have the results to get rid of them.
Isn’t the whole point of there being a planet earth, is that people will always have differing opinions? I’ve told multiple people just because someone doesn’t agree with something, that doesn’t make them a bigot or hateful. I for one don’t agree with this because of my lifelong faith. I feel like it was tacked on, that maybe he was aged up (which the stories of Jon being 11 years old under his parents care were AMAZING! So I still don’t understand why they aged him up) but I feel like they did that just so that they could make… Read more »
Disagreement is one thing, it encourages debate which is reasonable. Recent comments were not in the spirit of reasonable discussion but more pure vitriol and hatred.
I would challenge you to say just what it is about this that makes you disagree with the story direction because of your faith. Because the Jesus I read about washed the feet of prostitutes, and forgave, and said “Judge not, lest ye be judged,” on a damned mountain, as I recall. You can absolutely be a bigot by expressing what seems a simple opinion. Example, the phrase: “I don’t think black people and white people should marry!” That is akin to treating homosexuality as if it is wrong, at this point. It’s gone past opinion and into irrational prejudice.… Read more »
Mr. Bailey, I believe that what you are saying here is that nobody on this site should be able to express an opinion that suggests that any one type of person should have less rights than another person. Now, whether expressing bigoted opinions should be permitted is, in my opinion, debatable. Banning them certainly does not change any minds, but I understand that you’re the admin. I disagree, however, on your comparison of not approving of homosexuality with not approving of interracial marriage. Svillar13 expressed that his faith (Christian, I assume) does not allow him to approve of homosexuality. As… Read more »
Adam, this is a wonderful place of acceptance. As long as people are respectful, they can disagree. That is the Superman way. Showing respect, love, and kindness for a better tomorrow. Much love to you all, no matter your beliefs.
Absolutely, the poll, the results and disagreement isn’t the issue.
The hate speech it fostered was something else.
Agreed! 100%
Adam as said just because people disagree does not mean they are bigots. I was accused of being a racist because I caught my new neighbour helping themselves to my property, and refused to allow them to ponce from me. I am a disabled pensioner on my own, I have to get my shopping home delivered…I am not a supply store for others who have a car and can get their own wants. Also there was no apology from them, said I didn’t need them? Who do they think they are?
Disagreement doesn’t automatically mean bigotry but when civil debate is bypassed by some in favour of hate speech and threatening behaviour, they shouldn’t be allowed to get away with that.
If people disagree by saying “I think this story is wrong/shouldn’t happen because I think homosexuality is wrong,” then they are absolutely being bigots.
Anecdotal experiences you may or may not have had don’t change that.
Be careful, you’re walking a very thin line here with your rhetoric, and we are erring on the side of the ban.
People who are against homosexuality sans reason are, by definition, a bigot. They don’t have to be branded such. They simply are. The definition of bigot: “A person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic toward a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.” We can disagree about whether or not tax cuts are sound fiscal policy. Dehumanizing another person for who they love, which they cannot help, is bigotry. It will not be tolerated here. The results of this poll… Read more »
Honestly, growing up, I never thought I would have so many straight allies. I grew up hiding who I was until later in life (I was born in the 60s so there wasnt a lot of support obviously). I know this has been a stressful time for Neal et al but it genuinely warms my heart to read such full throttled support.
Honestly, I’m surprised there aren’t more straight allies, at this point, after all the work that’s been put in by so many good folks. I grew up in an era where people were growing more comfortable coming out, but there was still far more danger, and it taught me, very quickly, that the only difference between myself and my queer friends was the similarly BS reason people chose to pick on us, but with gay friends, it was life and death, with me it was maybe a beating or targeted harassment. It was my blessing to bond with and know… Read more »
