John Byrne’s Own Favorite Superman Story

In the mid-1980s with his “The Man of Steel” miniseries, John Byrne was hired by DC Comics to reboot the Superman story, reimagining everything from the culture and geology of Krypton to the personality of Lois Lane. It was fresh and a clear break from the past, and started what many people began referring to as “The Byrne Era”.

SYFY Wire has published a video interview with writer John Byrne in which he talks about his favorite Superman story from his run writing the character.

I can see from a writers point of view how coming up with that entire scenario as a way to explore just how truly loathesome Luthor is and how he goes about getting his hooks into people might stand out as a favorite. On his idea for a sequel, I was “WTF?” about it at first but then I imagined how Byrne might have gone about laying out the page.
