John Byrne’s Own Favorite Superman Story

In the mid-1980s with his “The Man of Steel” miniseries, John Byrne was hired by DC Comics to reboot the Superman story, reimagining everything from the culture and geology of Krypton to the personality of Lois Lane. It was fresh and a clear break from the past, and started what many people began referring to as “The Byrne Era”.

SYFY Wire has published a video interview with writer John Byrne in which he talks about his favorite Superman story from his run writing the character.

. Byrne said that his favorite that he did was the little back up story with Luthor and the waitress. In this same interview he also lays out what he had in mind for a follow up where the waitress shows up in Metropolis to confront Lex.

Thank you! I don’t remember that story so I’ll take a look at it again.

It was a secondary story in Superman vol.2 #9.
IIRC that issue is collected in vol. 5 of the Man Of Steel trades they put out a few years ago. Can probably find it on Amazon.
