Jimmy Olsen to Host DC True Crime Series at HBO Max

‘American Vandal’ Creators Bring Mockumentary Style to DC Universe

DC Studios and HBO Max are developing “DC Crime,” a fictional true crime docuseries that will be hosted by Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo. The series marks an innovative blend of the superhero genre with mockumentary-style storytelling.

The first season will focus on Gorilla Grodd, the psychic super-intelligent gorilla villain best known from The Flash comics. Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the Emmy-nominated duo behind Netflix’s acclaimed “American Vandal,” will write, executive produce, and showrun the series.

This project continues Yacenda and Perrault’s track record of cleverly spoofing documentary formats—previously earning them a Peabody Award for “American Vandal” and creating the eSports mockumentary “Players” for Paramount+.

The series will be executive produced by DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran as part of their ongoing effort to build an interconnected DC film and television universe. Warner Bros. Television will serve as the studio.

No premiere date has been announced yet.
