Momoa, who previously starred in Warner Bros. and DC’s “Aquaman” franchise, was officially cast as Lobo for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” at the end of 2024.

The actor has long expressed his enthusiasm for playing Lobo, a character known for his violent, irreverent personality and chaotic sense of humor. “I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but [Lobo] was always my favorite,” Momoa said in a past interview, which he referenced in his Instagram post. He went on to explain why the role resonated with him, joking, “Hello? It’s the perfect role.” Reflecting on the possibility of playing Lobo, he once said, it would be a “f*ck yeah” if DC ever approached him for the part.

Lobo, a character created by writer Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen, first appeared in Omega Men #3 in June 1983. Originating from the now-destroyed planet Czarnia, Lobo is a bounty hunter whose powers include superhuman strength, regenerative abilities, and invulnerability, making him a formidable and often uncontrollable force. Known for his over-the-top personality and penchant for chaos, Lobo quickly became a fan-favorite antihero in the DC Universe.

Supergirl, played by “House of the Dragon” breakout Milly Alcock, will also star Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle, and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills.

Production is slated to begin later this month. DC Studios has set a June 26, 2026 release date for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.”
