In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has shared some incredibly promising details about the upcoming “Superman” film and the future of the DC Universe.
A New Superman Takes Flight
The biggest headline? David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman. Gunn is beyond enthusiastic about his casting. In his own words, “Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, David Corenswet is going to freak everyone out with how great he is. He is one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with, and he can do everything. The man is incredible.”
That’s high praise from someone who knows storytelling and has been instrumental in shaping superhero narratives. For longtime Superman fans, this sounds like exactly the kind of fresh, dynamic take we’ve been hoping for.
What to Expect from the New DCU
Gunn is taking a thoughtful approach to continuity. He’s treating some previous DC properties like “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker” as “light canon” – meaning if something is referenced in a new show or movie, it’s considered to have happened.
The Superman film is described as “an enormous bear of a movie” that is “completely different” from other projects, but “very much fantastic.” Gunn is currently test-screening the film, and his enthusiasm is palpable.
