James Gunn Addresses Fan Concerns About R-Rated and PG-13 Crossover

James Gunn took to social media to address fan concerns about the upcoming DCU slate, specifically regarding the connection between the R-rated “Peacemaker” Season 2 and the PG-13 “Superman” and “Man of Tomorrow” films.

When a fan expressed worry about an R-rated project serving as a “main direct tie-in” to the broader DCU narrative, Gunn reassured audiences that each project can be enjoyed independently.

“You can watch every project by itself of course, just like you can watch Peacemaker by itself or watch Superman without seeing Creature Commandos,” Gunn explained.

However, the filmmaker also revealed that while standalone viewing remains possible, some projects will have stronger narrative connections than others. “Man of Tomorrow and PMS2 are very very connected,” he noted, referring to “Peacemaker” Season 2.

This clarification continues Gunn’s strategy of building an interconnected universe while ensuring accessibility for casual viewers who may not consume every DCU project across different ratings and platforms.

“Man of Tomorrow” is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 9, 2027.
