In the latest Superman Homepage Member Poll we asked you the following question:

Do you consider “The Iron Giant” animated film a Superman movie?

While “The Iron Giant” is a fantastic film with heavy Superman themes, fans don’t consider it a Superman movie according to our poll. Nevertheless, I’d definitely recommend it to all Superman fan of all ages. I just watched the film once again, showing it to my 6 year old nephew… he went away bragging that it’s the best film he’s ever seen.

No, but maybe I cried the first time I saw the Giant choose to be Superman…

It’s a beautiful movie and while it is not a Superman movie because of how the themes of Superman are used you come away with a well-spring of good will towards that character.

Which is something an actual Superman project is supposed to do!

It’s a very nice film. I would say that The Iron Giant did the same thing that the Goonies did with the character Sloth in showing a love for the Superman character. The Goonies having also been directed by Superman director Richard Donner. The Superman reference is my favorite scene.

I voted “Yes” and I have no regrets. I consider it a Superman movie the same way I consider Secret Identity a Superman story; it’s about the iconography, its impact and its lasting effects on culture for me. Superman has to be more than just the story of Clark Kent, it has to be about how the world perceives that story and how it is shaped by it.
