Matt's Answers

Samuel Moon (samuel@type40blog.com) asks:
The first arc of the New 52 Superman seems to reveal that Lois knows that Clark is Superman. But since George Perez left the book, there has been almost no mention of this. So... Does Lois know? Are we going to find out soon?

Matt: It does seem that way, Samuel, but as you point out, we've seen nothing to indicate that since then. A close call? A suspicion that was later laid to rest? We'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

Ismael (Dathmus@gmail.com) asks:
Hi Matt, thanks for clarifying your Lois & Clark comments. As a Lois & Clark fan, I was a bit disheartened over the dissolving of the marriage and your recent comments. Even though I still think it should be Lois & Clark, I'm interested to see how Superman and Wonder Woman's relationship develops. One of my concerns is with Superman and Wonder Woman both having their own books, how much of their relationship will we get to see develop in their own titles? Will Superman and Wonder Woman be showing up in each other's books more?

Matt: The plan for right now is to keep the WW/Supes relationship mostly in the JUSTICE LEAGUE book, Ismael. WONDER WOMAN is running some pretty tight continuity, so it's kind of hard to shoehorn it in there. ACTION will eventually line up with the other three S-titles, but until then, we've got a lot to accomplish in that title. You can look for an appearance of the last non-snake Amazon in SUPERMAN, but I'm not going to say when or where just yet. You'll know before Thanksgiving, though.

Godstaff (Email address withheld by request) asks:
In one of your answers you implied quite directly that Clark eventually will return to Lois. So, is this hooking up with Wonder Woman thing just a gimmick to boost sales? A pairing doomed from the very beginning? If so, why should we readers who are in favor of this "power" couple keep buying their comics, knowing this will end in the old status quo? It's pretty clear that you yourself are a bit biased towards the Lois and Clark couple. What can we expect? Meh! "New 52" my foot!

Matt: Aha! If I say Clark and Lois will never get together, people are upset. If I say they ultimately will probably get together, people are upset. All this says to me is that we have the makings of some good drama here. I'm not guaranteeing Clark and Lois will become a couple, Godstaff, anymore than I can guarantee sports team A will beat sports team B. It seems like team A has the heavy advantage, but you never know.
We want to see Superman/Clark and Lois in different relationships, see where that takes the characters. Superman and Wonder Woman aren't developing feelings in order to boost sales, we're seeing where the relationship goes. Some people will rail against it, some will love it, and it will make the ultimate outcome, whatever it may be, all the more exciting to get to, for you folks and us alike.
How come no one asks about Krypto's love life?

kurt Langlotz (kurtl1@comcast.net) asks:
Call me stupid but I cannot figure out how or what Clark uses to activate his Superman armor? Why is he still wearing the T-shirts?

Matt: We've yet to establish the exact mechanism that triggers the armor, Kurt, but it essentially retracts back into the S-Shield on his chest, which has got to be more comfortable than wearing clothes over the armor. Occasionally, Clark will go with the T-shirt look when the moment suits him.

Dustin (Email address withheld by request) asks:
How did Martha and Jonathan die? I always loved the relationship between Clark and his adopted parents, so I would really like to know what actually happened to them. Old age? Accident? Something Clark could have prevented (which would help explain the brooding IMO)? Any plans to reveal that?

Matt: Oh yes, Dustin, most definitely. I'm not sure yet if it will be #16 and #17 that, er, puts the nail in the coffin, but we'll definitively find out what went down with Ma and Pa by then. I'm still rooting for a Soylent Green explanation myself.

Steve asks:
The writers have introduced a number of new villains to the Superman mythos since the launch of the "New 52" universe. However we haven't seen many of Superman's traditional villains such as Bizarro, Mxyzptlk, or Parasite. Can we expect to see any of them soon? Also, what happened to Lex Luthor, he seems to have vanished since the whole Brainiac saga?

Matt: An excellent question, Mr. Steve. Lex will be returning soon, before the calendar year is out. Parasite will certainly be arriving on the scene before long, and we've hinted at Mxy in Action a little bit, and where there's smoke...
