Eddie's Answers

Michael asks:
Hi Eddie! I just wanted to say I'm a long time Superman fan. My question is: Will we see the return of Chris Kent (Lor Zod) in the New 52? Also, will Superman trying to prevent the events of Kingdom Come? Or will none of that be addressed in the New 52 until sometime down the road?

Eddie: Thank you, Mike! At this time we are not delving into either of those past storyline - and that doesn't mean we won't ever, just not now. But if you are a fan of the Phantom Zone, do keep watch on what we will be doing in SUPERMAN: DOOMED, our big Superman event.

Richard asks:
Does red sunlight weaken today's Superman or merely not empower him?

Eddie: It makes him burn up the yellow light faster.

David asks:
How do you personally feel about Superman and Wonder Woman being together? Because frankly I find it very interesting that these two powerful characters look at each other as equals, and probably thought they would never find a significant other that's as powerful as themselves.

Eddie: Well, I do a book that's called SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN, so I better like it or maybe I hate it and I will be making their lives miserable in the coming months as it becoms part of the SUPERMAN: DOOMED storyline.

Paul S asks:
I was wondering how long DC Comics will keep the "New 52" tag on the comic book covers?

Eddie: As long as we have 52, right?

Frank asks:
I was wondering if there's any chance of Superman receiving his own weekly series? It could replace "Superman Unchained" which I hear is ending in April.

Eddie: It's not and Superman has an event already that while not a true weekly, it will be occupying a lot of the books he is in. The aforementioned SUPERMAN: DOOMED.

Carey Lester (xsailor5@yahoo.com) asks:
As someone, among many, who has tried the New 52 Superman and just can't get into the character with all the changes (costume, marriage to Lois undone, Kents dead), any chance you can get us alienated readers a digital Superman comic that continues the previous continuity, or at least set in the present "Beyond" universe? Many of us can't stand the lonely, bully Superman that started out running around in jeans, and an underroo t-shirt with his security blanket pinned to it.

Eddie: I am sorry about that. Give it another shot. I highly suggest what Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder have done with our guy. If you like pulp adventure classics ACTION COMICS should be for you.

And there is also ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN that is out of continuity featuring rotating teams.

Smithy asks:
Eddie, right now I am enjoying hugely the "Superman/Wonder Woman" comic and "Action Comics" is finally picking up. While Soule and Daniel are showcasing big villains like Faora, Zod and Doomsday, is there any chance we'll see some other big guns coming into that book? I want to see Diana meet Maxima.

Eddie: Not a bad suggestion. If Superman survives DOOMED, we'll see.

John (Jpfx75@verizon.net) asks:
Why are the MOVIE and COMIC BOOK versions of Superman so different from each other? I find a lot of the time, what's in comic books is not in the movie, and what's in the movie is not put into the comics, why is that?

Eddie: Two different mediums. This is similar to your favorite book being adapted into a movie. Things have to change because what plays well on the written page, may not do as well to a larger (and not educated in the way of comics) audience.

We try to match some things, but others we understand are better left as is for the different people coming to it.

Steve asks:
From an editorial point of view, how would you describe Superman's personality? Is he brash and abrasive (as seen in early Action Comics stories)? Is he all brawn and no brains? Is he a super genius? What's the current editorial stance on how writers should be approaching the character?

Eddie: The best part is he is an evolving character. The New 52 allowed us a chance to reset the clock and present a much younger Superman than we had. In some of our stories, he is just coming into his own as a hero, then we see him 5 years later and he is a calmer man, with a more informed attitude. He is a smart man - his father was one of the leading scientists on Krypton, after all - but he is still someone that has to cope with the weight of the world on his shoulders. None of this has ever been easy for Kal-El, but he continues the never-ending battle because at the end of the day he is Superman.
