Eddie's Answers

Jeremy Byars asks:
Hi, Eddi, and welcome back to the forum and back to editing Supes. My question is about variant covers. Some time ago, a rep from DC said that the company would scale back on variants. Shortly thereafter, we get 8 (?) variants an issue for Superman Unchained. Now, I know this is because of the 75th anniversary, but as a die-hard collector of all things Superman for decades now, I'm getting very worn out by all the variants (and their cost) and it is making me reconsider the depth of my collection. Thoughts?

Eddie: The variants are there in celebration of the 75th, but by no means feel compelled to buy them all. Pick your favorite, and buy that one. The main thing we care about is that you are engaged by the great story Scott and Jim are telling inside.

slyck moves (radicalone@live.com) asks:
Why are the MOVIE and COMIC versions of the costumes different? Shouldn't they be the same to avoid confusion?

Eddie: No, they are their own thing. And nobody has gotten confused with all of Batman's wardrobe changes, so we are giving Superman fans the benefit of the doubt.

Glen Sannem (GRSannem@yahoo.com) asks:
Welcome back to the Superman Homepage Eddie! Superman and Batman are buddies in the New 52, and know each other's secret identity. But does Superman know the identities of the other members of the Bat family? i.e. Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl?

Eddie: Glad to be back, and Superman is pretty chummy with Dick Grayson, we just haven't gotten a chance to see it. As for the others, not so much.

Michael Guajardo asks:
After the Blackest Night event, I felt like there was a real missed opportunity in terms of storytelling when Luthor wasn't allowed to keep his orange power ring. The idea of someone as brilliant and creative as Lex permanently wielding a power ring is fascinating to me. I think we'd see Lex do some truly amazing and clever things, not to mention present a far more dangerous adversary for Superman. Is there any possibility we could see Lex get his hands on that ring again here in the New 52?

Eddie: Lex's fans should definitely keep an eye out for what he will be up to in 2014, a ring is not necessarily in the cards but some other cool things are.

Jessica asks:
I was reading Aquaman the other day and I realized that Aquaman's physiology allows him to perform some of his feats. Such as leaping great distances, super human strength and being bullet proof, so it got me thinking... If Aquaman can do that based on his physiology, can Superman do similar feats without a yellow sun just based on his Kryptonian physiology?

Eddie: Yes, some. Some of Superman's abilities such as leaping told building and being more powerful than a locomotive where attributed to his planet's powerful gravity in the Golden Age, but now he's become a living solar battery and that has changed things a bit.

FABIO MARQUES (farm1974@gmail.com) asks:
Last time you came to Brazil, during a Q&A I asked you if/when DC would print "An Evening with Superman" by Barry Windsor-Smith? How about now? Any plans for that story to be published any time soon?

Eddie: Tudo bom, I wish I had an answer now, but nothing I know of.

Jon Clark (jonclark@aol.com) asks:
Will there be any greater focus on Superman's downtime as Clark? It's been a year since he quit the Daily Planet, but other than a few panels where Cat is doing the heavy lifting for the new website, we really haven't seen any fleshing out of the new status quo.

Eddie: Well, with clarkcatropolis.com breaking the news about the Superman/Wonder Woman relationship followed by the change in Sam Lane's job status, their Blog is becoming a big deal that Mr. Kent will have to start paying more attention to in the future.

John (Jpfx75@verizon.net) asks:
I know DC has the whole Superman/Wonder Woman thing going, but are we going to see Superman/Clark and Lois getting back together soon?

Eddie: Diana might have a thing to say about that. Plus if you read recent issues of SUPERMAN Lois has a boyfriend, and there's someone else in the wings as well.

Ryen asks:
Will we be seeing more of the "World of Krypton" backup stories? I was really enjoying those. With the "Krypton Returns" story finally arriving, it has me itching for MORE Krypton. I'd definitely buy a solo series of Krypton if you guys ever made one. Would a "Kronicles of Krypton" type of title ever be possible?

Eddie: You guys keep asking, we love revisiting Krypton aside from the extreme gravity, lethal creatures and crazy criminals, it's a fun place to hang out at.

Albert Miranda asks:
It was confirmed by writer Scott Lobdell, as well as post-Krypton Returns solicits, that Kon-El will die in Superman #25. We know he was replaced by Jon Lane Kent in Teen Titans Annual #2 and will be the titular character for Superboy #26 onwards. Yet, in issue #19 of the latter title, Harvest still has Jon in a test tube ensconced in one of the colonies. Are these Suoerboys the same character, but from different points in time or alternate timelines altogether?

Eddie: This time line conundrum will hopefully be cleared up in upcoming issue of SUPERBOY when Aaron Kuder, our awesome ACTION artist, takes over the series in April's issue #30.

Steve asks:
With 2013 all but over, what do you think was DC Comics' best acknowledgment of Superman's 75th anniversary? Which publication were you most proud of?

Eddie: That's like asking me to pick my favorite kid. I think there was something for everyone from the separate SUPERMAN and LOIS: A CELEBRATION OF 75 YEARS collections to SUPERMAN UNCHAINED as well as the other Super-books KRYPTON RETURNS storyline; it was a great year to be a Superman fan, and 2014 will prove that the adventure continues...
