Eddie's Answers

Rehan Sheikh (spookysheikh@hotmail.com) asks:
Hi Eddy. Which actors would you consider ideal for Superman, Lois and Lex in the upcoming movie? Are you just as frustrated as the fans at WB not moving quicker to get the film started? Will you get to have any input in the movie-making process?

Eddie: As someone in my family once said, anything good is well worth waiting for. Hollywood works differently than comics. As for my own wish list of actors, I'd like to see an unkown as the Man of Steel. Y'know an older Tom Welling type. As for Lois, I currently like Rena Sofer from NBC's Coupling. There's something about her eyes that makes her very intriguing. And for Lex, how does a bald Jude Law sound? Although, Johnny Depp wouldn't be bad either.

Barry Freiman (barryfreiman@ameritech.net) asks:
Is Lex Luthor still a 3rd party President? He was electedÊrunning as the Man of Tomorrow in the Tomorrow party. Yet in recent issues, Luthor comes out against 3rd party candidate The Candidate.

Eddie: Yes, Lex is a 3rd party candidate, and he doesn't have to like the competition.

Clint Crawford (texclint81@yahoo.com) asks:
Uhm Eddie, in answering someone's question [in a previous "Ask Eddie Fan Forum"], you mentioned "Once he starts doing the science thing, who knows what that could lead to."... Are you hinting at somthing? If so, what?

Eddie: Hmm, the answer to that is still a year away.

Martin Ross (martinlovettross@hotmail.com) asks:
Are there any plans to collect any of the Ordway/Stern/Jurgens stories of the late 80s/early 90s? I am thinking, for example, of stories such as "Dark Knight over Metropolis" (which is timely in the wake of the success of SUPERMAN/BATMAN) or "Soul Search" (Superman's search to save Jimmy Olsen and Jerry White souls from the demon Blaze).

Eddie: We're just now getting to the Byrne material, so it may be a bit before we get to that, but if the demand is there, I'm sure we eventually will do those stories as well.

Ricko (choujin247@yahoo.com) asks:
Hi Eddie! Thanks for taking time to answer our questions. Mine is: I've read something before but I dont remember where, it's about Superman creating a "photon"-like beam by mixing the radiation of his X-ray and Heat Vision. And as I've seen in "Superman/Batman #1", he fired his Heat Vision like they were lasers. What's the deal with that?

Eddie: He trained his vision to fire photons during SUPERMAN #151-153 arc to fight Imperiex. If he concentrates hard enough his vision becomes laser like.

Barry Freiman (barryfreiman@ameritech.net) asks:
Can Krypto's teeth penetrate Superman's skin? Does the fact that Krypto, unlike Supes, is covered in hair, white reflective dead hair, have any impact on how much yellow solar radiation gets into the dog?

Eddie: Yes, krypto's bite can be worse than his bark, which is why Superman keeps him at the Fortress -- that and Lois. The hair issue is an interesting one. I'll pass that along. Thanks.

Jason (jslavigne@yahoo.com) asks:
Hey Eddie, thanks for answering our questions and for being big enough a person to accept criticism as well as praise. Anyway my question is this...With so many comics being caught up even still in the "Grim and Gritty" tone that so dominated the 90s, are you proud of the basic message of optimism and hope that is the tone of the Superman comics? How do you feel about the fact that IMO the Supes comics are basically optimistic, a thing which I find wonderful by the way?

Eddie: I don't mind criticism that's constructive. You try different things and it's better to know when something isn't working from you guys than for me to keep doing it. And as for the optimistic view the Superman books have, I'm very pleased with it. It's nice to spread some hope. I don't know if every reader wants that though. It's what makes Superman a tough sell, but with the new teams we'll be introducing some real world problems that will hopefully allow you guys to relate more to our Man of Steel.

Jonathan (JLabonte1974@comcast.net) asks:
I know this is a hard question to answer... and thanks for repling to all the questions, but this past year was supposed to be the "Year of Superman" when in fact it was the year of Batman 2. What went wrong with the Superman books?

Eddie: Simply put, some things we tried didn't fly. We recognize that and are making a major effort to rectify that. One of those things being taking one of the guys that made BATMAN such a success -- Jim Lee -- and putting him on SUPERMAN. (The other -- Jeph Loeb -- is already hard at work on SUPERMAN/BATMAN.)

Barry Freiman (barryfreiman@ameritech.net) asks:
Who made their debut in the DCU first in continuity -- Superman or Batman?

Eddie: The Man of Tomorrrow came first in ACTION COMICS#1 in 1938. I didn't edit that one, but I sure like that cover.

Andrew Whitehead (segafanboy@hotmail.com) asks:
Mr. Mxyzptlk, Krypto and Bizarro are all good characters, but it seems that Mxyzptlk and Bizarro have become evil of late (why?), and Krypto has just disappeared... I like these tounge-in-cheek characters, who give the sometimes overly serious world of Superman a sense of humour.

Eddie: The unfortunate part is that Superman has too many silly characters as well as too many villains who wear suits and are bald. Mxy and Bizarro are fun when they need to be, but there are times when you need to get serious. Look for more Krypto soon, and not where you expect. Ask me where in three months.

Michael (MPagar397@aol.com) asks:
We've seen Superman fly into the sun at the climax of the "Our Worlds at War" story, and then again (somewhat) at "Adventures of Superman #620". I was wondering, if Superman were to remain in the sun for a longer period of time than he did in OWAW, would it make him even more powerful, or was his limit into absorbing solar energies shown at the end of the story? Thank you for your time and attention.

Eddie: Wow, another question that we'll just have to wait for a while before you see the answer, but don't worry it will be worth waiting for.

Action Comics #812 Preview Thanks again Eddie!!

Eddie: Always a pleasure and since I was [about a week] late [answering these question], here's a peak at what ACTION artist Ivan Reis is up to. This is for the back-up of ACTION #812 featuring Ms. Lana Lang.
