May 2002

Andrew (andrewpmarden@hotmail.com), Paul Anthony Llossas (Kal-El577@msn.com), and Neal Bailey (baileyn@cc.wwu.edu) all asked similar questions along the lines of:
Is there any chance of wrapping up seemingly forgotten characters, if only to kill them off, such as Scorn, Ashbury, the Newsboy Legion, Dirk Armstrong, Cat Grant, Alpha Centurion, the old Krypto (Bibbo's dog), Bibbo (please don't kill him, though, I'm partial :) ), the Riot Grrrls, Keith (Perry's son), Outburst, the Supermen of America, Jose Delgado (Gangbuster), and Simone Deniege? Is there any hope of closure on these characters, perhaps a one to six-shot written by the previous creators to lay rest to the dangling ends they've created?

Eddie: Well, Cat's the Press Secretary in Washington. But I can't say there's been great demand to see any of the others back, and we have been cramped for space to use our immediate support cast. But when we can find a use for them, we will.

You can look for the SUPERMEN OF AMERICA appearing in YOUNG JUSTICE #50 on sale October.

Andy (andy_b_goode@hotmail.com) was wondering:
Has Superman ever gone up against the X-Men in a crossover? Would DC and Marvel ever consider doing it? I would love to see Supes kick some mutant butt.

Eddie: No, not even during the DC vs. Marvel comic. Something that has to happen someday.

Dave R. (meesterchips2@hotmail.com) asks:
Will the relationship between Lex Luthor and Pete Ross working side by side in the White House be explored? I think that this relationship has been ignored. Growing up with Clark, I would assume that Pete would have similar values as Clark and not agree with some of the actions of Lex. I think a serious fight between those two would be interesting.

Eddie: We've touched upoon it. We'll be getting into what it's all doing to Lana later in the year.

Lawrence N. Masucci II (Superman-32@juno.com) asks:
If/When DC Comics decides to allow this to happen... Is it scientifically possible for Clark and Lois to have a baby? I thought it was not possible for a Kryptonian and earth human to have one since thier DNA are not compatible. Or are you going to come up with something that makes it possible?

Eddie: Any thing is possible, but at this point the couple haven't really had the time to think about it. They are very busy.

Fred Johnson (fjohnson3@neo.rr.com) states:
I once read an article at another website (scifi.ign.com) a year or two ago that stated that the world had no need for a Superman anymore. At the time of Superman's creation common man could not fly - now we have affordable commercial airlines, man could not have super strength - we have various machines and such to enhance our strength, and lastly man's morals were different then - we looked for heroes. I notice now that I have started to read the comics that Superman seems to have more common problems, was this done to help today's readers relate to what many think as old fashion or outdated? Do you have the same feeling that people today having a hard time relating to the Man of Steel? If so is there a remedy?

Eddie: One of my goals when I took over the Superman books was to make him more accesible. It's true most people can't relate to him because he's so powerful. The idea was to focus on his human side as we threw bigger and bigger menaces to really challenge the Kryptonian side. He'd beat up Mongul, but take some time to have pie afterwards.

As far as being outdated--he's a classic. He's the original ideal where all other Super-heroes have come from. Re-establishing this is gonna be the goal for the rest of the year beginning with a story arc called "Achilles Agenda".

Jeff Dyer (jdyer@dubuque.k12.ia.us):
Eddie, are you editing the new Loeb-McGuinness Superman-Batman book? If so, what can you tell us? If not, can you still tell us anything? :) The title should include the words "World's Finest", don't you think?

Eddie: The title is still up in the air. I am editing and it's gonna be very cool. Both Jeph and Ed have come up with some real interesting stuff worthy of the World's Finest heroes. It's still a bit off in the future to get into any story specifics, but some of the things that were touched upon in their last team-up will be followed up on.

Dayspring (shadowsv@aol.com) asks:
I have been hearing more and more about how unstable the entire comic industry has become. It seems to be the rule that comics fall out of popularity every other decade, but it's a lot harder now with all the new forms of media. I guess I'm just wondering if you're concerned that we may be in the twilight of the modern age. I know the DC trinity will live on (Supes, Bats, and WW) but do you ever get concerned that perhaps all good things eventually come to an end?

Eddie: There's not so much endings as there are evolutions. The comic industry keeps get getting death threats, but keeps on ticking. And then movies like Spider-Man come along and everyone is interested in comics again.

Jason Lavigne (jslavigne@yahoo.com) asks:
What characters from the rest of the DC Universe can we expect to see make guest appearances in the Superman books in the upcoming months?

Eddie: In JUNE: JLA cameo in SUPERMAN #183; same but way smaller in AOS #605; MOS#127 features Wonder Woman. JULY is our "Return to Krypton 2" with plenty of surprises but no hero guest-stars. AUGUST: AOS#607 guest-stars Argent from the Titans and ACTION#794 has the JSA, sorta. September and October are just full of villains.

Stanley Walker (Stanlos@Hotmail.com) asks:
Do the explanations for Superman's powers given by Byrne during his stint on the books still hold true?

Eddie: Yup.

Aaron (aztheman2000@hotmail.com) asks:
I'm a newbie to the Superman comic books and would like to get into reading them but would like some tips on where to start. Any Tips?

Eddie: If you can pick up the trades to "Death of Superman" "Return of Superman" and then the newer ones by some of the current team "No Limits", "Endgame" and "'Til Death Do Us Part". That should bring you up to speed and allow you to get what's going on this month in the books (especially SUPERMAN that wraps up a plotline begun in "No Limits"), and then you can wait until we release the next trades with the "Critical Condition" arc and "Our Worlds At War".

Thanks Eddie!

Eddie: Always fun.
