Eddie's Answers

George (gw_amaru@verizon.net) asks:
Eddie, thanks for taking the time to answer our questions, it is great to get insight from someone actually involved with the books. In "Action Comics #823", Superboy uses his TK to lift what appears to be a chunk of a Gold or Yellow Kryptonite, and in the begining of the "Supergirl from Krypton" arc in "Superman/Batman", Batman mentions the "new varieties" of Kryptonite. Does this mean that DC plans to go back to the pre-Crisis tradition of having multiple forms of Kryptonite?

Eddie: Like skittles they fell to the Earth, wrote the man who gave TV Red Kryptonite. So it would it be a shame if we didn't use all the pretty colors, no?

Bob (batman1939@comcast.net) asks:
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. One quick one: Is Superman's execution of Zod and the Phantom Zone Criminals from the end of John Byrne's run in the 90's still in continuity? The ghost of Zod influencing the Russian Zod implied it was, but the Lee/Azzarello arc implies it may not be.

Eddie: The Pocket universe existed and the malevelonce that has been Zod continues to exist within the Phantom Zone as we suggested with Russian Zod, and you'll have to read more of how the SUPERMAN story turns out which now also uses some parts of Birthright. And hopefully by the end of this year all this will be cleared up.

Daniel (d-canaf@zahav.net.il) asks:
Hey Eddie! Last year's "Superman: Secret Files 2004" had a story called "Suicide Watch" in which we saw a mysterious person who tells Pete Ross he's in charge and then tries to have Amanda Waller killed. Will we see that story expanded and dealt with soon? It created kind of an interest for readers, I think. Thanks!

Eddie: Pick up the upcoming DC COUNTDOWN for more on mysterious figures in the DCU.

Charles Morris (cj_morris@mac.com) asks:
The biggest question I've had all these years is this: How does Superman's cape stay on him at all? I've seen villains tug on Superman's cape and toss him around and the blasted thing is still attached to him. Even when he flies at top speeds it stays on him. So what's the secret?

Eddie: Ma Kent is a hell of seamstress.

Nolan Harris (nolanium@hotmail.com) asks:
I understand that in the "grand scheme" of things, Superman's origin is generally the same as it's always been. My concern is that recently the comics have been focusing on more of the SUPER and less of the MAN, due to Birthright's de-Byrne-ing of the secret identity concept forged in 1986. Are we going to see more of Clark and the supporting cast in the near future?

Eddie: What's the secret identity concept? We love Clark. he just got a rest in SUPERMAN, but both ADVENTURES and ACTION were dealing witth him, Lois, Lana, Superboy and Ma and Pa as well as new characters like Lupe, Jerry and Dr. Mohlman. And with mark Veirheden coming onto SUPERMAN this May, we'll be seeing all aspects of the Man of Steel's life as it gets even more complicated.

Bud Conner (budconner1@yahoo.com) asks:
I was wondering, with Batman having almost finished his series of decade trades (except "Batman in the Nineties") what's up with Superman? Any plans for a "Superman in the Forties" or a "Superman in the Eighties"?

Eddie: The current series of Trades is sort of a Superman in the Eighties. Expect a lot more Superman material as his movie rolls out.

Patrick Olmstead (patrick_olmstead2000@yahoo.com) asks:
I am currently reading JLA and I want to get into reading another Superman comic. Do you have a suggestion on when to start? I dont want to start in the middle of a story where I won't know what is going on. Thanks for your help!

Eddie: Well if you're just joining us, I suggest picking up SUPERMAN #217, ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #640 and ACTION #827 in MAY as we have a bunch of new talent coming on the books making a great jump on point. Also there's SUPERMAN/BATMAN #19 that's a one-shot story focusing on the new Supergirl. Then let me know what you liked and didn't like.

Dar-El (dar-el@tiscali.co.uk) asks:
One thing thats been bugging me for ages, does Supes age the same as us? Or will being under a yellow sun slow down his aging process, making him vertually immortal?

Eddie: Currently he ages like everyone else, or we'd be reading the ADVENTURES OF SUPERBABY. Now whether he will continue to age with continued exposure to our yellow sun only time and probably another editor will tell. I don't have any of Kal's comic long life.

Dennis Mitchell (dcm2@rogers.com) asks:
Eddie could you please clarify for me if Superman absorbs other forms of energy besides yellow sun energy? And if so, do they help to add to his power levels? Thanks!

Eddie: No it's the yellow sun that does it. Variations on that, red or white only serve to decrease or increase because of their wavelength.

Mariano Alfonsi (maa1982@fibertel.com.ar) asks:
Why do we have a two months delay between cover date and publishing date? No big deal, I'm just curious about it.

Eddie: The cover date was established to tell retailers how long they can keep a comic on their racks, it goes with those nice color bars on the comics.

Chris Lyne (chrislyne_uk2001@yahoo.com) asks:
Hi Eddie, just wondering if you had any idea when the stories in "Action Comics" and "Adventures of Superman" will catch up with "For Tomorrow" (or more specifically the Vanishing that happened a year before the story) in the "Superman" title? With "For Tomorrow" ending soon does that mean that "Superman #216" onwards are, for now at least, set before the Vanishing? It seems that way to me as "Action" and "Adventures" don't seem to have caught up yet and the first post-Tomorrow story in "Superman" is part of a cross-over between the three. Also, back in October you said that the books would be "more closely connected though, even when not sharing a common storyline", and this doesn't seem possible if "Superman" is set over a year in the future. Thanks for your time.

Eddie: Everything is in sync as of April on sale with the story that Judd Winick and Ian Churchill are doing across all three books. And this year they will indeed be more connected than they have been in a while.

Thanks Eddie!

Eddie: You're very welcome.
