Eddie's Answers

Jason L. (jslavigne@yahoo.com) asks:
I always fantasize about writers from other mediums coming into comics and doing something creative storylinewise. What writers from TV, movies or prose would you like to see come in and try their hand at Superman comics? I think it would be interesting to see Chris Carter, Joss Whedon, Rick Berman, Michael Crichton, or George Lucas try their hand at a Superman comic. Anyone on your "What-If?" writers list?

Eddie: Actually, I wouldn't mind working with any of the the people that wrote for FARSCAPE. That show pushed a lot of the conventional boundries of sc-fi, and look what the BABYLON 5 creator did with the competions main star, so it would be interesting to see what new things they could come up for Kal-El. Otherwise, your list is excellent. Then there's Richard Donner and Christopher Reeve who've made their own impression on the Man of Steel's myth on screen, which by the recent, amazing SMALVILLE of two weeks ago shows its still having an impact. What would they do in the comics with its unlimited budget? That also goes for the folks who work on SMALLVILLE, but hey some of those guys are working for us on the SMALLVILLE comic and the upcoming SUPERMAN/BATMAN book. Although getting Al Gough and Miles Millar, isn't a bad idea either.

David Pascarella (dpkcda@aol.com) asks:
Rumor has it that President Luthor will be leaving the White House in the near future. My question is, in the past DC has intergrated the real President's image into the story, i.e., President Reagan appeared in the Legends Mini-series and in The Justice League of America and President Clinton and his wife appeared in the Death of Superman, if Luthor leaves will we get to see President Bush enter?

Eddie: All depends on when and who's in the seat when and if all this comes to pass.

Jason Smolinski (jsmo2283@yahoo.com) asks:
Eddie, you are AWESOME for answering our questions. Here's mine: Doomdsay has either become a love of many fans, or someone to hate. I love the character, but he seems to be fading into the B-Villain category. He was taken out rather quickly in Superman/Darkseid. Now, if he was taken out by the Entropy Ageis, which is part of what shut Doomsday down in Our Worlds at War, can we expect Doomsday to reform again and appear sometime in the future? Plus, making him intelligent has really weakened the character, are there any plans to reverse that?

Eddie: It's my pleasure to answer the thoughtful questions you guys pose here. Now as far as our big bad, I don't want to overuse Doomsday. He definitely should not have the feel of a B-level villain. The Aegis held him at bay, which is to show the power inherent in it, but Doomsday is still a foce to be reckoned with. And rather than just having him be just a mindless brute, a thoughtful creature of his power could be a very big threat to the universe. Time will tell.

Kyle Wasko (kwasko@mailcity.com) asks:
Love your work, Eddie. Quick question: any chance of bringing the lettercols back? Why were they taken away in the first place? I really do miss them. Failing that, why not more variation in the DC IN DEMAND column? It's a little unfortunate that if you buy six books a month, they more or less--excluding the brief caption re: next month's issue--contain the same thing in the back. Thoughts?

Eddie: Internet just made the lettercols so dated that we decided to go with the DC IN DEMAND page to give you a place to hear all the latest news from DC. But you should all give us your feedback, and let us know what you'd like to see in it. I can understand the need for more variety. I'll pass it on.

A Amateur (aamateur2002@hotmail.com) asks:
Hey Eddie, here is a question I hope you could answer for me: What is happening to Powergirl? in issue #1 of the "Lost Hearts" saga, while Kal is in a fight against a supervillan who is able to turn himself into Kryptonite and by doing so now has the advantage over a weakend Superman, we all of a sudden get Karen showing up out of the blue to save the day and clocks the villan one, but at the same time it seems that she is weakend herself by being incontact with the Kryptonite villan. Then later after the fight is resolved Karen asks Kal about why she was weakened from the Kryptonite? Kal then recalls about the first time he met her emerging from a rocket ship similar to his thinking at the time that she may have been his cousin. Karen then says to him that she was told that she is from the past and that her powers were magical but now she doesn't think they are anymore and is unsure of the origin she's come to know of. My question here is: Is Karen going to be revealed as being another surviving Kryptonian, or maybe even a possible decendent of Kal's from the far future?

Eddie: Oh, it's a very cool story that Geoff Johns has in mind. Keep your eyes out for future issues of JSA that make her a feature player.

Neal Bailey (baileyn@cc.wwu.edu) asks:
I am actively trying to move myself from the role of can't to can...in other words, I'm teaming with an artist and writing comics in the hopes of someday breaking into the industry. My vote? DC. DC all the way. So I wanted to know, where should I send queries/synopsis treatments, etc? I believe I have read that DC is a request only submission establishment, but to someone with no clout in an increasingly competitive publishing industry, the likelihood that the universal maxim of producing your own book and just "hoping" that it gets to the editorial staff in DC makes me feel like I have to be famous in order to even have a chance... do you have any advice with regards to these problems? I'd appreciate any output on the matter.

Eddie: Get published elsewhere to begin with and this allows us to see what you can do. We definitely will not look at unsolcited ideas or scripts. It's not easy, but coming to DC with an established body of work gives you more credibility. In other words, if other people are hiring you, it gives us reason to beleive you have talent.

Clara Daniels (clarity_01@hotmail.com) asks:
Whatever happened to Sinbad, that middle-eastern metahuman? I remember he once appeared in the "Legacy of Superman", during the "Return of Superman" stories.

Eddie: He's still around. Unfortunately, Curt Swan isn't, and it was always he that would get to the fill-ins that featured Sinbad.

Frank Dirscherl (frank@the-wraith.com) asks:
Hi Eddie. Will Kara Zor-El be sticking around in the Super-books? Any plans for her? What about Linda Danvers? Now that her book has been cancelled will we be seeing her in the Superman comic books?

Eddie: If you read the last issue of SUPERGIRL you know the answer to that, and we want to respect Linda's wishes. Now, does that mean we won't have any Supergirl? Keep checking SUPERMAN, as well as, this summers ACTION COMICS for more on this.

F. R. (email address withheld) asks:
Any plans to further explore Superman's Torquasm-Vo powers? I must say, I love that addition to his power set and how it could easily lend itself to the development of Superman into Superman Prime -- and all those "powers beyond time and space" this version of Kal-El possesses. Also, why haven't we seen more of it? Does it make Superman too powerful and, thus, "unwriteable"? Is Superman afraid to use it given its power implications -- seeing as how it, ultimately, scored the victory over that uber-"Infinity Gauntlet" character Dominus?

Eddie: It's a psyche plane power that's great against opponents that challenge the Man of Steel that way. We just haven't had one of those lately; not counting Manchester Black, who Superman found an even more pacifistic way of dealing with.

Thanks Eddie!!

Eddie: You are so welcomed. This is by far one of the best part of being the Superman editor, so just keep the questions coming!
