Henry Cavill and Zachary Levi Debate Superman vs. Shazam!

Yahoo Movies asked both Henry Cavill and Zachary Levi who they think would win in a battle between Superman and Shazam!… and if Batman would have any kind of a chance if also thrown in to the mix.

“Well, if it’s three guys fighting, Batman has a chance,” said Cavill. “Because Shazam and Superman are going to focus on each other. And that’s when Batman gets all his sneaky stuff in.”

“Shazam’s got magic, which is allegedly – comic book lore-wise – Superman’s weakness, or he’s at least more vulnerable to it than other things,” added Cavill.

“Superman isn’t going to just be beating up Shazam. He’s not. And Shazam is basically just a big kid. So he’s not going to be beating up Superman. He’s a huge fan of Superman, for one. But Supes is seriously quick. I think it’s whoever gets the jump on the other. It’s situational.”

“Shazam!” will premiere on screens across the USA on April 5, 2019.

How about instead of them fighting each other, they team up? Because they’re both super heroes, and they should be teaming up to fight a bad guy and not each other. I just don’t understand why they have to fight each other. They are both superheroes. It makes no sense to me.

The only time I’d ever want to see them fight is if they take several movies building up to an adaptation of Kingdom Come. That would be the only acceptable time and it would have to be THE final movie in the universe.

While Kingdom Come might be an awesome Elseworlds tale a world where Lois is killed by another characters main antagonist as well as Billy Batson spending the entire rest of his life being tortured and brain washed in addition to his death and that of tons of other characters is just really not the future or the conclusion I would want for the DC Universe at all. Comics or otherwise.

Didn’t you see Superman/Batman Public Enemies?

I did see Superman/ Batman Public Enemies. While I did like that film, I didn’t like the Superman Captian Marvel/Shazam fight. Captain Marvel/Shazam says to Superman that it doesn’t take the wisdom of Solomon for Superman to stay down. Superman’s response to Captian Marvel/Shazam was asking if Solomon would’ve gone to work for Lex Luthor? Superman points out that it makes no sense for captain marvel/Shazam to work for the bad guy. It’s out of Marvel’s/Shazam’s character to do so. Even if Luthor was President, Superman was still wiser than Marvel/Shazam to see that Lex was the bad guy. And… Read more »

Same deal as the Superman/Wonder Woman shipping. They just wanted to see it. And here I am watching all the flirting between her and Batman…

It’s an unspoken rule at DC. Like the one where Batman has to beat everybody.

I just don’t understand why they have to fight each other.

The reason is because of egos and/or point of views. The fight will happen either early in their relationship, like in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, or later on in their relationship, like in Captain America: Civil War. 🙂

Hope this helps. 😀

Now, I do wonder who would win in fight, Wonder Woman or Supergirl? LOL! 😀

But why would one hero who idolizes the other hero fight that other hero? They basically have the same morals. In order for that to happen, one of the two would have to be possessed, mind controlled, brain washed,or misinformed on the other’s intentions as a character. And since superman by now is known to be a hero, there would be no reason for shazam to fight him. He’d be acting like any fan of superman. Superman wouldn’t fight someone unless they attack first. So it would have be for the reasons I had said before. I guess I’m just… Read more »

Sometimes it takes just for hero A to be so focused that their suspicions are correct and that hero B believes he [hero A] is wrong for a fight to break out.

This brief exchange made me remember a scene in an episode of Justice League Unlimited I saw years ago.

Both heroes believe they are right, and words are not getting through. And this was way before Man Of Steel came out in theaters.

The problem I have with this episode is similar to the problem I have with Superm/Batman: public enemies. Shazam has Solomon’s wisdom yet fails to use it. Luthor had this fusion generator that had traces of kryptonite that was supposedly made to help the citizens of Metropolis, yet he didn’t say anything to Superman about it( yes I know this plot was to make the world distrust Superman and the JL, but hear me out.)Shazam had neglected to use the wisdom of Solomon much like he neglected to use it in public enemies. Had he used it, he could’ve avoided… Read more »

I’d also point out that at the end of the episode, batman said that superman fell for this trick that was set up by Luthor and his co-conspirators. Had Shazam used his wisdom, I have no doubt he would’ve come to the same conclusion that batman had. Then there wouldn’t have been a fight, since Shazam would’ve realized Luthor was up to something.

Shazam has Solomon’s wisdom yet fails to use it. I thought it was wise of Shazam to come with a soft voice to try and de-escalate the situation, in contrast to Superman’s more aggressive tone which was escalating the situation. I thought it was wise for Shazam to let both sides state their points of view. I thought it was wise that Shazam suggested they call in The Atom or Steel to verify what Luthor said as opposed to engaging on suspicions alone. Shazam had neglected to use the wisdom of Solomon much like he neglected to use it in… Read more »

Let me ask you this, was it wise for Shazam to ignore Luthor’s history with Superman in that episode? Here we have the world’s greatest superhero, who has a history of saving the world in multiple occasions. Yet Shazam sides with Luthor who has a history of being involved with shady if not illegal activities that Superman has to put a stop to. Shazam ignores this history. Had he used that wisdom, there wouldn’t have been so much damage that these two heroes caused in that city. Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage it were a real place.… Read more »

SuperFunTime,
I had a thought, instead of debating about the Superman/Shazam battle, we talk about the Supergirl tv series? I’m a fan of her show, and from what I’ve seen in your previous comments, you are a fan as well. I also noticed that you like Tyler’s take on Superman. I also like his version. I’m really not a fan of the hero vs hero debates, but I think that talking about a show that we are both fans of is a better topic to talk about. I think it’s a good idea, what do you think?

You would think after all these years working with the guy, they’d BOTH know in a 3 way fight, TAKE BATMAN OUT FIRST. Hell, Superman KNOWS about the kryptonite ring… HE GAVE IT TO HIM!!!

The whole who would win,Batman or Superman question I feel is getting old at this point. Plus the Kryptonite ring has become predictable. All superman needs to do is use his heat vision to seal the compartment in batman’s utility belt to prevent him from using it.

But Batman knows this and expects Superman to do this. Therefore, when the heat vision hits the belt, the belt redistributes the energy into another compartment that excites the molecules causing kryptonite, in a gaseous state, to expand outward at a super fast speed that encompasses Superman.

Do I want Superman to lose to Batman? No. But I’ve come to expect any reasonable attack Superman would make to be negated/countered by some elaborate plan/scheme Batman has.

I guess I have been socially conditioned to expect the world’s greatest hero to lose to the world’s greatest detective.

This brings back to my previous point about superman fighting batman. Well more like a point in the form of a question. Why do we have to see these two fight? And also, why not just team up instead of fighting? I just don’t feel the need to see these two heroes fight any more. I mean no offense, it’s just that seeing heroes fight each other I feel has become real tiresome. It becomes an endless debate on who would win and why they would win. And it just leaves me asking why? Again I mean no offense. This is… Read more »

There should be conflict in methods but that should really be it. At least in the case of Batman. I thought Daredevil season 2 handled the conflict well between The Punisher. That’s what I was looking for with BvS but they didn’t even attempt to talk to each other and they really dumbed down both characters to justify a fight. I have a real problem with their decision to have Batman straight up want to murder Superman.

I think it’s, partially, because people like different heroes. When Person A says Superman is the best and Person B says Batman is the best, both start trying to explain why by trying to one-up each other with facts. After they facts are compiled, they present their respective hero in situations with the other hero is useless, severely less effective. Eventually, it reaches the point where one hero could take out the other. For example: Person A: Superman is the best. Person B: No, Flash is the best. Person A: No, Superman is the best because he can do this,… Read more »

I guess they’re developing a Supergirl movie now with no movement on MoS2. Awesome. These decisions make no sense to me anymore. WW2, birds of prey, suicide squad 2, the Batman, Black Adam , the flash In addition to Shazam and Aquaman but no Superman sequel. I don’t like this at all. Especially since there are already popular versions of Supergirl and Flash on television already. I’m losing hope that we’ll ever see a mos2. BvS seems like it is the best we’re going to get.

I wonder who they will cast for supergirl. It would make sense if it were an unknown actress. Much like how being an unknown actor helped Reeve with his believability as superman when he was first casted, being an unknown actress would help with the believability that this actress is supergirl rather than a known actress playing the part.

To be honest, I really don’t need a supergirl movie. At least not for a long time because they need to get Superman’s house In Order first and they haven’t yet.
