Well I would say to an extent that changing superman’s apearance shouldn’t affect his sales. If he were to start wearing a uniform of a plaid design, and shaped his hair in the shape of a mohawk, then I wouldn’t be surprised if people stoped buying superman comics. I wouldn’t be surprised if Superman’s comic sales were down in the mid-late 1990’s due to the fact he changed his uniform from his classic blue and red to the electric blue and white. The trunks are what I would say the majority of fans are familiar with since he’s had them… Read more »

I would also say that just because the comic title says “Superman” doesn’t nessarily mean that readers would support it. Not if the the charature has been changed to an extant that doesn’t reflect who he is. If he were to call himself superman but were to start wearing plaid with a mohawk hair style with a vain attitude he might lose readers. I would buy and read Superman comics because of who he is, not just because of his name. If he were to stop acting like the hero he is, then the Superman title for me wouldn’t be… Read more »

I know both of my previous paragraphs seem to the same, but the difference is one is about how he looks, while the other was mostly about the “Superman” comic book title and the character superman and his personality .

“If he were to stop acting like the hero he is, then the Superman title for me wouldn’t be worth buying.”
I would also say even with the way the story is written, I wouldn’t buy the comic if Superman wasn’t acting the way he should. To me it doesn’t matter how good the story is. For me if Superman doesn’t act like Superman in the comic, then I’m not buying the comic regardless of how the story is.

That maybe be true BUT and old saying: stand in one place to long and people will throw rocks at you. The character has to evolve or he’s just going to fade away.

I doubt that saying applies to a comic book character. He’s not going to fade away. He’s Superman. Even if he stays in the same suit, his comics won’t end. He’s to big an icon for that to happen.

And from the looks of this week’s polls, a lot of people are happy to see the classic suit, myself included.

Well you know it’s just possible that people like seeing Superman’s classic look because it’s actually a damn good look! I know that goes against the casual gospel that it’s a silly old relic from ye olden days but it clearly exceed the ancient origins of the various parts and influences a long time ago becoming a part of the character which has outlasted all that. It no longer matters that circus strongmen and Flash Gordon newspaper strips aren’t a thing anymore. Superman soared past them all. Now I’m personally of the opinion that not every non-trunks design is bad… Read more »

well yeah, there are trunkless suit designs I liked as well. Smallville season 11 super suit, and the reborn super suit are the only ones I can think that comes to mind. New 52 in my opinion was just silly with the armor and collar, and rebirth with the blue boots made superman’s suit too blue. I don’t understand this whole “Superman is lame” perception either. To change his look drastically and to a degree his personality makes no sense to me. Over recent years Superman has been too serious in my opinion. I like seeing him be more friendly. I… Read more »

As I said before in a previous post somewhere, Superman’s look may change from time to time, but given enough time his look will go back to the classic design.

In general I like the trunks as well. But the comics are flat and one dimensional. If you look a the material and the sculpting on the suit that Henry wears the trunks would look like a total add on. The more skin forming or thinner material the suit is the more the trunks blend in and complete the suit.

I don’t think the trunks would work for Cavill’s version since the style of the suit has already been established for quite sometime now. And trunks in the Synderverse probably wouldn’t work if they’re going for the theme that they have established. However I did mention if they wanted to, they could add a red texture to the lower waist part of the suit that blends with the blue. For now the trunks in movies, and tv I believe aren’t going to happen any time soon. That’s not to say that it will never happen. I do think the trunks… Read more »
