Frank Grillo, who will play Rick Flag Sr. in the DCU (as both the voice of the character in “Creature Commandos”) and in live-action in the upcoming “Superman” movie, spoke with Kristian Harloff on YouTube about James Gunn’s process and how he was cast as Rick Flag Sr., playing the character in live action, and why David Corenswet is the real deal Superman.
He said, “With David there’s something very Christopher Reeve about him… He encompasses this aura… There’s something about this guy… I don’t know if I could articulate it but I was like oh this guy is Superman.”
The cast of the film, simply titled “Superman”, features David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent.
Directed by James Gunn, “Superman” is scheduled to be released July 11, 2025.
