First Look – Cruel Superman Featured in “Green Lantern: Blackstars #2”

DC Comics has given us a first look at pages from “Green Lantern: Blackstars #2”, which Superman features in heavily.

Cosmic Vampire Princess Countess Belzebeth is back! With “Green Lantern: Blackstars #1” hitting shelves today, check out this first look at the next issue, hitting shelves December 4.

Below are pages showcasing artist Xermanico’s incredible work alongside the same pages colored by Steve Oliff. As a reminder, Liam Sharp’s covers for these three issues form a triptych.

The Darkness of the Blackstars Continues! Next Target: Earth!

“It’s my cruelest portrayal of Superman that I’ve ever done, that makes him out to be the worst he can possibly be. I’m hoping people will really dig it, because it’s almost a roast of modern comics, including my own.” – Grant Morrison.

Hal Jordan and the Blackstars will stop at nothing to bend the planet to its leader’s whims, and Earth’s greatest heroes pull out all the stops to fight these fascists. Betrayals of cosmic consequence abound! And why is Earth’s sun turning orange? We can only hope Superman figures that one out before it’s too late…

When you start putting ‘evil’ or ‘cruel’ in front of Superman… then he ceases to be Superman. Just create a new character if you want to explore an evil powerful being. I’m so sick of this concept and it’s not new or novel and I’m tired of the writers acting like it’s some fresh approach.

very much agreed. It’s quite pathetic and lazy

I know it’s like they all think they’re the first person on the planet to ever conceive that Superman turning against humanity and his fellow heroes would be terrible and that they’re just so damn edgy for doing it.

You know he might be sincere in his desire to “roast” the idea but it is very possible to make something so much like the thing you’re making fun of to the point that nobody can distinguish your parody from the real thing. So you’ve only succeeded in making more of the same.
