The first teaser trailer for DC Studios’ highly anticipated “Superman” debuted earlier today, offering fans their first real glimpse of David Corenswet as the iconic hero in a film that aims to ground the character in a fuller DC Universe while emphasizing themes of kindness and hope.
The teaser, which premiered following a December 17 press preview, opens with a striking image: Superman, bloodied and exhausted, crash-landing in arctic ice before being rescued by his super-powered canine companion, Krypto. “Home. Take me home,” speaks the Man of Steel in one of only two lines of dialogue in the trailer.
Writer-director James Gunn, who leads DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, emphasized that this film will formally launch their new vision for the DC Universe. Unlike previous adaptations, this Superman exists in a world populated by other superheroes from DC Comics lore. The trailer showcases several characters making their modern cinematic debuts, including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

The film stars Corenswet (“Hollywood,” “Twisters”) as both Superman and Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Supporting cast includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent.

During the press preview, Gunn discussed his approach to the character’s iconic look, noting, “I didn’t want to have it look like a wet t-shirt. I didn’t want to have it have a bunch of fake muscles in it, and I didn’t want airbrushed abs on it.” The film will also feature John Williams’ classic Superman theme, reimagined with an electric guitar arrangement by composer John Murphy.
For Corenswet, embodying Superman meant tapping into the character’s fundamental optimism. “A lot of people consider Superman to be a naive character, and it really is just a blindness to the little imperfections and the silly little things that we get caught up with as people,” he explained at the preview.
Gunn emphasized the film’s themes of goodness and hope, particularly relevant in today’s divided world. “This movie is about the basic kindness of human beings, and that it can be seen as uncool and under siege [by] some of the darker voices are some of the louder voices,” he stated.
The film marks the first solo Superman movie since 2013’s “Man of Steel” and is set to release on July 11, 2025. As the cornerstone of DC Studios’ new universe of films and television series, it carries significant expectations while promising a fresh take on the legendary superhero.

This got me and whole family SUPER excited this morning. I could not wait to show my kids and they loved it. And they are big Marvel fans, so to have them looking forward to this a big win
Lots of good stuff here. Reusing the Williams theme strikes me as odd when this is supposed to be a new take. But I am super excited for this film!
full disclosure : I Love Henry Cavill as Superman – Love his look, and absolutely loved how he saw playing Superman as a responsibility, and tried to live as Superman would ( kept in great shape, got involved in Make a wish type charities, named his dog ‘Kal’ etc).. I was gutted after the Black Adam hope, followed by the extreme disappointment that came after his meeting with James Gunn (I still think his film could work with HC…the audience has an incredibly , pathologic short term memory.. but WTH) and, I really DO NOT love David Cornswet.. He got… Read more »
