Fan Anticipation for “Crisis on Infinite Earths” TV Crossover – Poll Results

In the latest Superman Homepage Member Poll we asked you the following question:

Who are you looking forward to seeing most in the upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” television crossover?

With over half the votes, Brandon Routh’s return to the role of Superman is what fans are looking forward to most about the upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover on The CW. I thought Tom Welling’s return might be more popular, but I wonder if people’s excitement for that is tempered by the worry that he might not suit up like Routh is?

With the recent images of Routh being back in the cape, it’s great to see that he’s getting a lot of positive responses for his return to the role of Superman.

“..but I wonder if people’s excitement for that is tempered by the worry that he might not suit up like Routh is?”

I’d say that’s exactly it. Routh would probably have still won the poll but I think it would have been closer if we knew for sure Welling wasn’t going to just dodge the suit yet again. Maybe the CW people are holding on to his being in-suit as a surprise ..but I doubt it.

For this week’s opinion poll, the voting options say“I want Cavill, but if not, an unknown that has the build, charisma and talent*” and “Unknown actor who fits the part. That’s how we got Reeve.*” is it the same voting option? They are both basically saying an unknown actor.

Actually, I’m afraid that’s my fault Spidey.

I added the “Unknown actor. That’s how we got Reeve.” The poll gives you the ability to enter an option to add to the poll and for some reason I did not see that there was one for unknown actor already there. I apologize for the error and any confusion caused.

That’s ok MattComics. Thanks for answering my question. I do commend you for referencing Reeve. Chris is my favorite Superman actor.

I voted for Welling myself, but I’m glad to see that Routh won the poll. I always felt that, out of all the actors to have portrayed Superman, he really got the short end of the stick.

I voted for Routh but I’m glad to see that a lot of people voted for Welling as well. He was great in the role. And for ten years he had played the part. I don’t think anyone will ever break that record.

I’m not surprised because it was clearly designed for Tom not to win it. It should’ve been just the actors names, by putting the characters names, you clearly (& knowingly)affected votes by writing “Superman” alongside Tyler & Brandon’s names & putting just “Clark Kent” alongside Tom’s name. That & Brandon’s suit picture (before that Tom was winning) clearly affected votes because you’re basically saying with conviction that you will only see him as Clark, when in fact you don’t know for sure as they can show him in a suit next week, just before air date or even keep it… Read more »

During the voting they do have the option for recasting their vote in case anyone changes their mind. It was a fair vote. They do have write ins for elections in case the voter doesn’t like any of the options that are listed. The same can be said about this current one. The new one had Routh as a write in and he was in the lead until someone wrote in that they want Cavill to continue in the role but if not then cast an unknown. I’m not happy that this write in happened. I was hoping Routh would… Read more »

The Superman Homepage reports on everything Superman related. I don’t see a bias. Superman has been going on for many decades. Over 81 years he’s been around. Movies, television, comics, videogames, toys, songs, cereal. True Smallville is a part of that history, but there is more history to Superman than just Smallville. The way I see it, those names on the poll were about the men who have played Superman in a past movie, or current and past tv series and how they had played him and are getting the opportunity to play him again. And that most likely they… Read more »

And one last thing. Tom Welling came in second place on this poll. Which shows that fans are excited to see him come back and still want to see him back in the role. So even though he didn’t get first place, second place is still a pretty high ranking.

I’ve been coming to the site for a very long time (since at least the early 2000s) and I’ve never seen any bias against welling or Smallville. I don’t know why people think that, Spidey
