Exclusive “Action Comics #1000” Variant Cover by Artgerm

Another comic book store exclusive variant cover for “Action Comics #1000” has been unveiled by BuyMeToys.com.

This variant cover showing Superman and Supergirl in flight together is exclusive to BuyMeToys.com, which has the cover available to order via their website.

With “Action Comics” speeding toward its landmark 1,000th issue on Superman’s 80th anniversary (April 18), not only will we see a series of variant covers capturing the look and feel of the Man of Steel throughout different eras of his 80-year run, but certain comic book stores will also have their own exclusive variant covers available in limited numbers.

Some of comics’ most prolific artists will be lending their considerable talents to celebrate Superman’s incredible impact on comics, literature and popular culture through these variant covers:

  • 1930s by Steve Rude (FUTURE QUEST, FUTURE QUEST PRESENTS
  • 1940s by Michael Cho (BATMAN BLACK AND WHITE)
  • 1950s by Dave Gibbons (WATCHMEN)
  • 1960s by Michael Allred (BUG!: THE ADVENTURES OF FORAGER)
  • 1970s by Jim Steranko (CATWOMAN: SELINA’S BIG SCORE)
  • 1980s by Joshua Middleton
  • 1990s by Dan Jurgens (ACTION COMICS) and Kevin Nowlan (HAWKMAN: FOUND)
  • 2000s by Lee Bermejo (LUTHOR)

And it comes in three versions Regular, Vintage, and Line Art…These guys are going all out!

First. The Color used here is simply beautiful, as it vibrantly pops out!

Second. Hopefully, we will see more and more Supergirl in issues going forward.

One caveat, although Supergirl’s boots are based on the TV show, that was based on old discarded 1970’s variant costume – I do wish her boots were the same as Superman’s, more like her original one with “M” at the top! IMHO it would be perfect!

Very appropo, as Supergirl was the backup feature for years in Action Comics.

I know it’s going to be Superman’s 80th anniversary soon, but I can’t help but wonder what they will do to commemorate his 100th anniversary 20 years from now. The art on these covers are so well done. I think that when the 100th anniversary comes, they will do something extra special for Superman. I look forward to whatever they have planned for that special issue.
