Erica Durance on Returning to Play Lois Lane from “Smallville”

Batwoman — “Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part 2” — (L-R): Erica Durance as Lois Lane and Tom Welling as Clark Kent —

Entertainment Weekly has published an exclusive interview with Erica Durance in which she discusses returning to play Lois Lane in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, and teaming up again with Tom Welling.

“It’s a little bit of a look into their future and the different choices they’ve made to be together,” Durance tells EW. “It’s a full-circle moment that’s really nice.”

When approached to return to the role of Lois for the 5-part crossover, Durance, who also plays Supergirl’s Kryptonian mother Alura, was surprised…

“My first thought was like, ‘Really? How are you going to manage this?’” says Durance. “But the writers are just spectacular about how they can pull all the different shows together and all of these different characters, and they make sense of all the timelines. So I was at first very, very curious to see what it would be, and getting to actually go out and do it, I of course was very excited to go back and get to play Lois again.”

Durance also said that it was weird returning to the familiar Kent Farm location with Tom Welling.

“It was bizarre [because] it felt like we hadn’t missed a beat,” Durance says. “It was just easy. It was like coming back in and working with family. It was a little bit bizarre because we went back on somebody’s else show, but we’re in a set that we’re familiar with, the farm and all those things. So it was very, very cool.”

I think Steve at some point conducted a poll of superman homepage members to see who everyone’s favorite Lois Lane actress is. Do not recall the results.

Anyway, Erica Durance is also my favorite Lois Lane followed by a tie between Margot Kidder and Teri Hatcher.

Always like her Lois especially in those later seasons once she was reporter. Just wish she could have been Lois in a full-on Superman show.

She was always one of my favorite Lois Lane’s. She had that special spark that Her, Teri Hatcher and Margot kidder had.

Second best Lois Lane… Teri Hatcher in my eyes still holds the crown.

Certainly one of the best, but if we include live action and cartoons, I prefer Dana Delaney’s take.

To Each their own, but If you go back and watch the entire first season of “The Adventures of Superman”, you might be impressed with Phyllis Coates portrayal of Lois. For that era, she is spot on with an “ahead of her time” female reporter characterization. She also mirrors the early comics’ Lois’ disgust towards Clark’s cowardly act to perfection. I loved Noel Neil’s version, too, but I often wonder what Coates’ could’ve done with the character had she been able to return for more seasons.

agreed… Coates was a great lois, I thought it really cool she was Lois’s mom for one episode on Lois & Clark.
