Dwayne Johnson’s Update on Henry Cavill’s Superman Return

Dwayne Johnson has just posted a new video on his Twitter account, not only to thank fans for making “Black Adam” number one on iTunes, but also to give us an update on where things are at with Henry Cavill’s return as Superman in the DCU movie plans.

“At the end of the day the studio was not bringing Henry Cavill back. Inexplicably and inexcusably, but we weren’t going to take ‘no’ for an answer.”

“This has been years in the making in regards to brining Henry Cavill back.”

“For us there is no way, no viable, logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC Universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines. It’s impossible to do. You can Venn diagram business-wise this whole thing 90 different times but it all comes back to ‘Where’s Superman’? You have to have Superman in the mix.”

“There was no other Superman, by the way, to bring back. Henry Cavill is our generation’s Superman and in my opinion the greatest Superman. And I mean the respectfully to the other actors, especially Christopher Reeve.”

“Now we build out the DC Universe properly, strategically, smartly.”

Purchase “Black Adam” from Apple’s iTunes store.

Good. I love Dwayne’s positivity and enthusiasm about all of this, especially his respect for Henry Cavill’s Superman and the character in general.

“There was no other Superman, by the way, to bring back. Henry Cavill is our generation’s Superman and in my opinion the greatest Superman.“ Excuse me? I have to disagree Mr. rock. Christopher Reeve in my opinion is the greatest Superman ever. Chris made us “believe a man can fly”, and still does to this day. And Henry Cavill isn’t the only Superman “of our generation.”There is also Tyler Hoechlin who plays Superman on the CW series Superman and Lois. And let us not forget Brandon Routh who returned to the role of Superman barely 3 years ago on the… Read more »

Then you would also know that the statement “Cavill is this generations Superman”. Is inaccurate

I would say in financial terms, yes, this is accurate.

But it’s not since Hoechlin’s Superman is still flying on the cw. If we’re talking in movies then maybe yes, not for all media.

Just wait until The Flash series finale undoes the timeline that formed that Crisis.

At this this point other than seeing Keaton’s Batman back, I’m really not putting any stock in the movie.

Don’t think how it relates to Superman though. Superman and Lois isn’t even in the Arrowverse. I could see Routh’s Superman coming back for one of the episodes of the Flash’s final season. But not Hoechlin’s. Not unless it’s the version of Superman that was in the Supergirl series or in the crossovers.

To properly end a story, one should take it all the way back to what started it.
The Flash series is part of a timeline that started with another character.
The first episode of that second series is this:

But the Superman that’s in the series Superman and Lois is not the same one that the Flash knows. It was established at the end of season two of Superman and Lois that the series version of Superman takes place in an alternate reality from the Flash’s version of Superman. In order for them to do that kind of a story, it would have to involve the Superman that was in the Supergirl series. Not that it isn’t possible that could happen, I’m not going to deny that possibility. But the Superman that’s in Superman and Lois I don’t think… Read more »

I just think that if the version of Superman that’s in the series Superman and Lois were to team up with the Arrowverse heroes, he might play second fiddle to them all over again and it could cause a setback for Tyler’s Superman all over again. I remember what Tyler Hoechlin Superman’s reputation was like prior his series, and I don’t want to see that happen again.

I typed out a whole thing about physical templates and the Multiverse and knowing it was on a different Earth than the Arrowverse. Hoechlin, Welling, Routh, and Cain are all physical templates for Superman. Keaton is a physical template for Batman and so on. David Ramsey is a template for Diggle. Who has a purpose for ARGUS and maybe something else. Carter and Gadot are templates for Wonder Woman. Now it’s being awaited for approval because I edited it twice. Superman & Lois is far more than just a series about him and Lois raising a family in Smallville. The… Read more »

I’m well aware of the multiverse theme that Superman and Lois has been doing these past two years. I’m just saying that I don’t think that they will connect Superman and Lois’s series with the Flash’s series even with the multiverse, because I think that the show runners of Superman and Lois are trying to distance their series from the rest of the Arrowverse. What did you mean by Templates? Do you mean actors and actresses playing the part? And what did mean when you said waiting for approval because you edit it twice? Did you write an article?

I’m just saying that I don’t think that they will connect Superman and Lois’s series with the Flash’s series even with the multiverse I agree. But don’t count certain things out. Remember that there is a Diggle and a reference to Oliver. That is still canon to the series. A revelation in the second season means it was always there from the start. What did you mean by Templates? Do you mean actors and actresses playing the part? Yes. This is exactly… Read more »

I’m pretty sure that Todd Helbing said that the Diggle from Superman and Lois is not the same as in the Arrowverse. So his character from Superman and Lois wouldn’t be connected to the one in the Arrowverse, as far as I can understand.

Of course they are not the same Diggle! LOL
Just like Superman is not the same Superman. The template is the same. Not the history that belongs to that template.
For example: The Diggle in the Arrowverse said no to the Green Lantern ring.
The version on Superman & Lois might be a version that says yes to accepting the ring.

Like the two Earths are parallel to each other in some way.

Yeah I understand the multiverse theory. Two or more different versions of the same character from different universes or realities.

Yes. Yes I do. The same actor different version. Different world than where you think you might have placed them before.

Hoechlin’s Superman and Supergirl should all be in The Flash’s final season. They won’t be. And, this will be one of the plots of it’s finale. Darkseid’s name will probably be a plot of the finale. What happens if Barry has to reset the Arrowverse timeline? If you pay close attention you might notice that at the core of what drives the Superman & Lois universe is actually the Multiverse. On Superman & Lois chances are Routh as Superman will happen. And, it will also be the same concept as what Superman & Lois is as a series. Routh will… Read more »

I honestly don’t think they will go in that direction. For one thing, Melissa Benoist has moved on from Supergirl. I don’t think she’ll wanna come back. I could possibly see Brandon Routh coming back for his superman for the final episodes of the flash for Multiverse story. But as for the Superman from the Superman and Lois series and a connection to the Flash series, I just don’t see it.

I liked Routh as Superman, too.
But lets be real here. He does not have the demand that Cavill still holds.
Routh never really did.

All I’m saying is Cavill’s Superman isn’t the only Superman of this generation, and to not include me whenever he says “our Superman.” He could have said something like, “ For Cavill fans such as myself, he is my Superman”. To say “our Superman” is a disservice and in my opinion disrespectful to Routh and Hoechlin who have in recent years played the role of Superman.

If you like Cavill, fine. But I as well as plenty of other fans who I have seen advocate for Routh’s Superman on social media like Routh’s Superman. Or Hoechlin’s depending on the fan. I really like Hoechlin’s Superman as well but between Routh and Hoechlin, I’m more of a Routh Superman fan. But that doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop advocating for Superman and Lois.

I see what you’re saying.
This is one of those “That is not my Superman” fan-bait comments that did it’s job.
This is the same comment I have heard from fans on this site since 2013.
They are in the biz to make money. So when it comes to that, which it always does, Cavill is this generations Superman. Movie-wise.

I just think that comment that the Rock made is unnecessary and uncalled for. There’s no possible way for the Rock not to know of Tyler’s Superman. He could have just as easily have said “ for Cavill Superman fans like myself, I’m happy to say he’s back.” I just don’t like it whenever someone says “our Superman”. I feel like he’s speaking for me without my permission. I have my own Superman and it’s not Cavill’s Superman.

Same to you, man. Hope yours is a good holiday as well. No conversation leaves me on a sour note. Keep that in mind. I am excited to see what they will do with him as Superman when it comes to building out a proper DCU. The one thing Dwayne Johnson has right is Superman should never be sitting on the sidelines. In 2013, I was on here saying how Man of Steel was not just the start to a Superman franchise but it could also be packaged as a Justice League franchise and how 10 years from now, we… Read more »
