Dwayne Johnson Answers Question About Henry Cavill’s Superman

Cavill

As we all know, in late 2022 Henry Cavill announced he was back as Superman after appearing in a post-credits scene in “Black Adam”. Unfortunately, his agreement was with people who were no longer in a position of power once James Gunn and Peter Safran came on as co-CEOs of the newly labeled “DC Studios”. James Gunn in fact announced that he was writing a script for a new Superman movie that would not star Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel.

Variety caught up with Dwayne Johnson on the red carpet at the Academy Awards last night, and asked him for his thoughts on the whole Henry Cavill situation.

“You know all that I can do and we can do when making Black Adam was to put our best foot forward, surround ourselves with the best people and then also deliver the best movie we could,” Johnson said. “Our Audience Score was in the 90s, critics took a couple of shots, that’s just the business of it, though. But I think, it’s almost like you have a pro football team and your quarterback wins championships, the head coach wins championships, and you know a new owner. The new owner comes in and says, ‘Not my coach. Not my quarterback. I’m going to go with somebody new.'”

I love the rock, but he keeps trying to spin this. The movie was okay, but not the home run with his fans he’s making it out to be. Honestly, the best parts about it for me were doctor fate and superman. And even with superman… i didn’t love that he was ‘on call’ for Amanda Waller. Everything else was just typical superhero fare. I think his mistake was distancing himself from Shazam, which are the better movies.
