DC FanDome Report – “The Snyder Cut of Justice League” Panel and Trailer

“The Snyder Cut of Justice League” was held at 5:30pm EDT on Saturday, August 22 in the Hall of Heroes section of DC FanDome.

The panel at DC FanDome started with Zack Snyder being asked questions from fans read by cast members of the film, including Henry Cavill.

Zack then went on to ask his own questions to a number of fans, including those behind the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement.

The movie will be screened in four parts on HBO Max in early 2021, but fans who don’t have HBO Max will still be able to see the film, as they are working on a distribution plan.

Then, the moment everyone was waiting for… Snyder played the official trailer for his cut of “Justice League”.

After global passionate fan calls to action and the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures announced that it will exclusively world premiere Zack Snyder’s director’s cut of the Warner Bros. Pictures/DC feature film Justice League in 2021.

Looks much better. I’m happy for Zack, while I don’t always agree with his direction and think he struggles with storytelling and dialogue…. he seems like a genuinely nice and decent human being who loves what he does and cares about the fan community. I would love to hang out with him and share his love of all things films and superheroes. It’s nice to see him come out on top when you see such negative stuff come out about Joss whedon and Bryan singer. I wish him all the best with this film and glad he got the chance… Read more »

This definitely looks like a Snyder film. As someone who really enjoys Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, I’m more than okay with that. IMO Steppenwolf is definitely looking better here.

The man is good with visuals. These are striking shots, for the most part. The Whedon version has spoiled the whole experience quite a bit, so it’s hard for me to get excited for the pre-release material, but at least this looks like it has scale, something that was sorely missing from the theatrical version. Some of the CGI needs more work, obviously, but the designs aren’t terrible. Steppenwolf looks more imposing here, despite his one appearance in the trailer being from footage that made it in the theatrical version and we even got DeSaad. That’s nice. Also, can I say how… Read more »

So from what I saw and could tell from this event so far, is that we saw a lot of new footage of Snyder’s JL. The tone of it looks to be vastly different than the theatrical cut. I’m not sure, but it looks like possibly the JL might go up against Darkside. I will have to see the trailer again to see if that might be the case. So far there hasn’t been any news of a Man of Steel sequel, however there’s still next month’s DC Fandom event, so its possible there might be an announcement then. Then… Read more »

Well, I’ll be … Ever since the release of ‘JL’ I was extremely skeptical that any ‘Snyder Cut’ could rescue that terrible movie. But the more I see of this, the more excited I become! Yes, Snyder is great with visuals and both MoS and BvS had setpieces that were near-perfect (for instance Superman’s unforgettable first flight in ‘MoS’ and the amazing warehouse assault by Batman in ‘BvS’). Here’s hoping he pulls off a miracle with ‘Justice League’.

Not a fan of the aspect ratio, the 1.66 European Screen. Just looks like the old TV aspect ratio. Saw an interview Zack did with fans on YT after the Fandome reveal. He pretty much confirmed that his movie is written to set up sequels and spin offs that he thought he or other filmmakers were going to make. So while I am looking forward to seeing different takes on what we already saw, but more than 2 hours of footage we didn’t see, it also feels like it’s just going to be a waste. The whole purpose of those… Read more »

Looks dynamite. Remember when the WB heads said it was “unwatchable”. So far looks pretty “watchable” to me.

I believe Snyder had said he was making this when BvS was in the theaters. So I would totally expect it to have continuity from BvS regarding visuals and presentation of the characters. That”s what I’m looking forward to. None of this garbage where Superman and Cyborg are laying on the ground laughing. The dark and serious tone of this is perfect! Hope we get a 4 hour BlueRay as well.

Side comment: saw the new trailer to The Batman. I’ve got to admit, it looks way better than I thought it was going to be.

It looks pretty good and it’s impressive they put together a coherent trailer, considering they’ve only shot something like 25% of the movie. My problem, really, is that whichever way you fart in the DCU, it’ll hit Batman. He’s everywhere and I’m experiencing so much Batman fatigue, I can’t get excited for it. Interested enough to see, sure, but not really hyped.

CompletelY agreed! I had my doubts and was skeptical about starting a whole new continuity, but I was blown away! It’s exactly the vibe I’ve been wanting for a batman film for a long time and I can’t believe it’s taken this long to explore the detective/psychological angle. I’ve often heard people wanting a riddler film inspired by se7en and it looks like we’re finally getting it!

I really really am very much looking forward to finally watch the snyder cut. It should keep up the narrative with MOS and BvS respectively. One can’t help but wonder though: why in God’s name WB didn’t release it in the first place!? While I sympathise with Mr snyder regarding his tragedy that he had to step down, they should at least honoured him and let him finish his vision as originally intended. Those studio execs always get cold feet when and if a tent pole product doesn’t meet expectations and has to change plans drastically. Some would probably dig… Read more »

Oh you sweet summer child, you give the execs too much credit. They were spooked after BvS (which they butchered themselves), then had Burg and Johns insinuate themselves during shooting, essentially rewriting the script on the spot. They were never going to release Snyder’s version, because they wanted something marketable to the lowest common denominator and they really, really wanted their bonuses. Snyder didn’t step down so much as he was essentially fired and they used his kid’s death as an excuse to do it. Really classy folks, over at WB. On the bright side, there is no way in… Read more »

Hmmm. Not sure if the game of Thrones reference is meant as an insult or complinent or as a way describing my naivite….but thanks anyway 🙂 one thing’s for sure…ma mamah raised no dummy 😀 While you may be right about those pesky producers getting cold feet once BvS did not deliver the box office numbers, I saw no reason why a 3+hours film should not be released into the theatres like so may other movies before (Gone With The Wind, Spartacus, Lawrence Of Arabia, Once Upon A Time In America, Godfather II, Schindler’s List, Malcolm X to name a… Read more »

Oh, that’s a GoT reference? I haven’t seen the show, I’ve just picked up the phrase. But no, it wasn’t meant to be adversarial in any way, it was a “bless your heart, I’m so jaded and I hate everything by now” kind of comment. Shorter films have something to do with the number of showings you can cram in. It’s largely why BvS had half an hour cut and why the theatrical version of Justice League was trimmed to under two hours; that was a requirement, as far as I recall. To be perfectly honest, I think a good… Read more »

Yep that was also GoT reference Hehehehee no harms done amigo. All is well. I think in the end it depends on the story. How long it should interpretated and what the narrative is. JL has hundreds of stories published in the 60+ years since its inception and picking the right one that truly defines its origins is a hard task at hand. Not to mention try making something original but still take some pivotal references from the source material and cram it into a 2-3 film. That is quite a task. I gotta say that I was really disappointed… Read more »

I know it will come down to how one views Snyder’s other films in the franchise, but I don’t see it as anything to get hot and bothered for.

I’m WAY late, but I just wanna express my excitement and pride in how years of passionate protesting have finally yielded the results we wanted. I am a longtime DC fan and a substantial film fan and have been a fan of Snyder’s take on these characters combined with his unique directorial style since the beginning. I simply can’t wait to see the intentioned version of his film in its purist form. Nobody remembers me, but I was a member here years and years ago until I was forced to abandon the site for a while due to personal problems… Read more »
