David Corenswet Wants to Play Superman

THE POLITICIAN David Corenswet Courtesy of NETFLIX

Entertainment Weekly has published an interview with actor David Corenswet, who is currently starring in Netflix’s “The Politician”, with the 26-year-old actor aware many people think he looks like Henry Cavill,
saying he’d be very interested in following in Cavill’s footsteps and playing the role of Superman.

“It came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me,” he tells EW. “But my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”

Fans can next catch Corenswet in Ryan Murphy’s “Hollywood”, a limited series for Netflix set in the world of Hollywood’s post-war studio system, which he both stars in and produces.

If Warner Bros. is done with Cavill, could you see Corenswet being the next actor to wear the blue tights and red cape?

If WB are looking to move on, I see no reason to not let him screentest…

He’d need to hit the gym hella hard but he’s definitely got some visual qualities going for him. I haven’t seen anything he’s acted in or know what he sounds like.

I would give him a chance. But WB can you at least do something more for Routh’s Superman first please? I’d even settle for a TV movie or special mine series event. It would be such a huge, huge waste if we only got see Routh’s new Superman just this one time. Trust me on this WB. The fans would love to see a three part movie series or mini series staring Routh’s Superman. I’d even settle for him making occasional appearances on Titans. Or could you at the very least make his Superman a yearly appearance for the annual… Read more »

WB, Before you decide to start looking to cast a brand new actor for the role of Superman please please please do something for Brandon’s Superman. Please don’t let this opportunity for a great Brandon Routh Superman movie trilogy or tv series pass us by. Think of the success that you will achieve with it. Please look at all the positive responses to his new Kingdom Come Superman. The evidence is there. We want to see more of Routh as Superman. So please, please don’t let this chance for a great Superman movie trilogy or series staring Routh as Superman… Read more »

Dear WB,CW,SyFy,HBO, Here is a list of ideas for the continuation of Brandon’s Kingdom Come Superman. 1. Kingdom Come movie Trilogy 2. Kingdom Come TV movie or prequel series or tv series 3. Guest appearances as Kingdom Come Superman to help out and give advice to Tyler’s Superman or Supergirl on their shows 4. Yearly appearances on the annual crossover events 5. He can be Superman on the Show Titans 6. He could even play other versions of Superman. For example, Earth 2 Superman, Superman Beyond, Superman Generations. Each year he can keep returning and give us a new take… Read more »

I saw a website somewhere that said actor Bruce Campbell wants to play Kingdom Come Superman.

I wasn’t sure if he was kidding or if he was serious. I wonder if he knows that Brandon already has the part. He’s to late to audition for it anyway.

Bruce Campbell looks exactly like how Curt Swan drew Jor-El. Go check that out.

He does look like the art, it’s just I’ve seen him mostly in comedic roles and I don’t know if I could see him as Superman. He would really have to sell it I believe.
Although I do think he does have a somewhat George Reeves look about him, so maybe it could work. I do agree with you afriend that he looks like Jor-el.

I had an opinion waaaaayyy back that Bruce would have been an interesting choice for Superman back in his prime. With those chiseled looks of his and that chin. That would have been…if you pardon the pun… Groovy. Then again, he’s too wacky an actor so it would have been a wee bit bizarre. I could see him as one of the following 3 though: Hal Jordan. Morgan Edge or Maxwell Lord. He’s still one of my all time favourites who graced the small and big and B Movie screens. And let’s not forget he was in Lois and Clark… Read more »

They’ve got the “DC Multiverse” line of action figures, and I swear the Super Friends Superman figure looks like a young Bruce Campbell.

I feel like they keep wanting to give us fresh young supermen when a lot of us are wanting a mature man of steel. Over 30. I would even like over 40 or 50 years old. What superman is is experienced. Quit retelling the origin. I love origins but its taking from our movies. Just boot him up mid 40s experienced confident and well into his career. Like superman all-star did. Not that i like that story but i like how he blew through the origin into the thick of it. I want receding hair, crows feet and a feeling… Read more »

I don’t think Superman necessarily needs to be older like Kingdom Come Superman but I would agree in the sense that we can probably skip a run through of the origin and any rookie status. Essentially just have Superman already in progress when we meet Clark in the movie. He’s been doing it for at least a couple years or more and isn’t a greenhorn. I really do love Superman’s origin story but I think right now any good will for seeing it has just been utterly abused by too many retellings in various comics and media within a short… Read more »

Agreed. Origin stories of superman are my favorite….but at the moment….it’s just not what we need. The market is saturated.

Routh’s Superman Returns was a throwback to the Reeves era. I will always believe they should have given a sequel to it. But they decided it wasn’t worth it and went with a total re-boot including an origin make over. Zack Snyder along with Superman introduces 5 additional new characters into the DC fold and they throw that off a cliff as well. It would appear at this point that Henry’s run is over with. SO….where do they go from here in terms of character development? They gonna produce another Superman with all the same baggage we’ve all seen over… Read more »

Yes to Lois and the Daily Planet. They are absolutely essential. Secret ID intact as well. You don’t gut the basics and if that’s the only idea you got just go create another character. But they do have to stop relying on Luthor and Zod. It is beyond insane that it is 2019, Superman II came out in what 1981 and with the exception of Bay Turtle-ish Doomsday in BvS (who himself was actually Zod for crying out loud!) we haven’t seen any of Superman’s adversaries on screen besides them. Including and most especially Brainiac. They could establish Luthor as… Read more »

However though I will say a selfish and corrupt billionaire is pretty relevant so I can at least understand if they want to use Luthor and he’s a classic so it’s not that I dislike the character (especially if we could get a suitable actor for the part this time) but I would really like to see at least one of the villains we haven’t seen yet and I think it needs to be one that doesn’t just have powers like Superman’s.

I personally think you could make a great investigative reporting style movie with the daily planet characters. Have Superman/Clark and Lois doing some digging into intergang or trying to take down luthor could be awesome. I envision that with Aaron sorkin type dialogue and I get excited at the possibility. The characters aren’t played out, we just need a writers who can put a different spin on it. My thoughts have always been that if a writer goes into a Superman story with an attitude of not liking certain elements of his character or his side characters, then you’re doomed… Read more »

Recasting is going to happen so people need to be prepared for it. They want to move in from the Snyder continuity. I suspect someone like this guy will get the job, and eventually pair up with Pattinson. I’m all for it.

He’d need a lot of physical training but the guy can act. I’d still feel bad for Henry though for not getting another gig if that’s the case. All in all…he looks the part. I’m all for it.
