Dan DiDio, the long-serving co-publisher of DC Comics, has left the company.
While there’s been no official announcement from DC, it’s reported that DiDio ended his association with the company this past week, having served as co-publisher alongside Jim Lee since 2010.
DiDio championed the ill-fated “New 52” relaunch of DC Comics in 2011, which, while successful at the time, was eventually replaced by the 2016 “Rebirth” relaunch, which restored many of the elements dropped in the 2011 relaunch.
The reason behind DiDio’s departure is unknown at this point in time.
As Superman fans we really should be talking about this… this is where I stand… I hated the New 52. Superman was a complete and total mess. When Rebirth and Superman Reborn came around I had high hopes for Superman until Bendis came around (after being hired by Didio and in my opinion crapped on all the amazing changes that came about because of Rebirth. (Jonathan Kent being my favorite addition ever! and losing my crap when he was aged up for no valid reason other than to make Superman go though crap) 5G was really worrying me hearing that… Read more »
I think that comes from EVS who no longer works at DC. It’s unlikely he has any actual insider information.
I wouldn’t worry svillar13. There hasn’t been any official announcement or any indication that I know of that DC comics is at risk of ending. And Superman is to important to just let his stories end. Now I can see them canceling some titles or stories, but not the entire Superman comic book franchise. Don’t worry and don’t lose hope. As long as Superman has fans like us who care about him, he’s not going anywhere. 🙂
Just saw the article that DC Collectibles returns to DC Direct name… Could this be a sign that the future of DC is not so bleak and At&t just wants to go back to basics with DC?
The industry people on Twitter are not, on average, comfortable with the news. Outside of Rob Leifeld, who for some reason is beside himself with joy, others seem more… skeptical. Jerry Ordway in particular said something that caught my attention; his reaction included the words “AT&T puppet” when talking about WB at this juncture, with his fear being that the next publisher won’t even be a comic book person. There’s no official reason given for his departure and we probably won’t get one, unless he also happens to have a kid that recently commited suicide. There are a lot of… Read more »
Best comic news I’ve heard in years. I’d like to see someone take over DC who is much less inclined to lean on grimdark as the default solution to friggin everything.
Now can we get Bendis off Superman?
To me, it’s great news.
Let’s hope in a drastic change of direction, with no more grim and gritty and mega events every year.
I hope DC comes back to just publishing good old regular superhero fantasy stories.
A men brother. Let’s get back to basics!
YAAAAAYY!! Let us all Make Superman Great Again! 😀
But who knows, we might even get a DC chairman that’s Woke-AF.
I’ll give you five bucks if you take Bendis with you.
In general I am just so sick and tired of there being people put in charge of Superman be it comics or other media coming at him from a place of contempt in some form or another.
Wether it’s contempt for the costume, contempt for the secret identity, contempt for him not being a grim and gritty character, contempt for his powers, contempt for his mythos, contempt for Lois, contempt for his family (The Kents and Jon), or contempt for his being a good guy.
I miss the Superman reborn days. :-/
I’m not liking what Bendis has been doing to Superman or his family.
I hope so too svillar13.
