As Hawkgirl fights the Mindhunter on the psychic plane and in the real world, Detective Chimp uses Comet the Super Horse's invisibility to save Starfire, Cyborg and Nightwing. Hawkgirl has managed to free the Martian Manhunter to use fire against the Mindhunter, who now is as much of a Martian as J'onn. Yet, Perpetua's Omega Knight still knows Nightwing's Justice League is coming to destroy his queen's throne and liberate the Legion of Doom. A new plan is necessary if they are to succeed. Otherwise, Perpetua will continue her reign of terror forever. Detective Chimp has created a diversion and possibly sacrificed himself to allow Nightwing's team to free the Legion of Doom. The Omega Knight has used a powerful blast that has essentially put him out of the fight. However, the Justice League's troubles are not over. The Legion of Doom wants to fight them in spite of the fact they were freed by Nightwing and the other heroes. Will Cheetah, Grodd and Sinestro ally themselves with their foes and the one who betrayed them, Lex Luthor? If they don't, Perpetua may be unstoppable.

Detective Chimp has survived the Omega Knight's attack, but so did the Omega Knight. The power of the Legion of Doom combined with the throne of Perpetua has managed to weaken the giant somewhat. Now they must do so again if they can stop trying to kill Nightwing, Lex Luthor and the Justice League. Otherwise, Perpetua's forces will continue to make the multiverse a living nightmare. When Nightwing was Robin, he worshiped the Justice League. Now, as he's grown and witnessed the conflict with Perpetua, he understands that each member inspires their teammates to be the best they can be even in the face of defeat. Nightwing and his team now have a chance to be heroes (Cue David Bowie music) by going to Themyscira to meet the Green Lantern Corps. Once there, forces will regroup and hopefully aid Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman on New Apokolips with their fight against the Dark forces of Perpetua.

He reveals that the Frost King's body is merely an avatar containing Edwald Olafsson's essence. Olafsson's remains are buried somewhere in the arctic. Hippolyta and Batman find them fused with Kryptonian crystals. Yet, they must make a decision. Do they save Edwald Olafsson, or do they destroy him? As Aquaman brings fire trolls to aid the Justice League and Superman fights Black Adam, Hippolyta, Wonder Woman and Batman attempt to reach Edwald Olafsson. They convince him to not let his grief and rage turn him into the monster that is the Frost King. With that, ice avatars melt, the world returns to normal, Swamp Thing disappears, Viking Prince goes to Valhalla and Black Adam promises that he and Superman will fight each other another day. All this occurs while Sebastian Stagg is taken into custody for his theft of Kryptonian crystals causing the Frost King's awakening. Meanwhile, Black Adam warns the planet that their blind faith in the Justice League could bring about their doom. At the same time, Superman's fortress has been rebuilt and made more secure. The Man of Steel, Wonder Woman and Batman check on Edwald Olafsson. He wants to be put in suspended animation until the Justice League finds a way to revive his family. They promise to help the Olaffsons while awaiting their next adventure.

NOTE: FUTURE STATE - The triumphant victory of our heroes saved all reality from the brink of destruction and shook loose the very fabric of space and time. From the ashes of "Death Metal" rose new life for the infinite multiverse and gave us glimpses into the possible unwritten world of tomorrow. This 2-month event (catalogued in the "Specials" section of the Comic Book Index) in some ways ended the "Rebirth" era, launching in to the "Infinite Frontier" era.
