United Planets liaison for the Legion of Super-Heroes Rose of Rose and Thorn has shown strength to the President of the United Planets by threatening after she threatened her. Meanwhile, The Horraz attack the Legion to get Aquaman's trident which they had stolen in the first place. Superboy manages to end the battle creating a major flood with said trident. Now, Jon Kent must stay behind to see the induction presentation on which the Legion worked very hard. Yet, as one team goes negotiate with Ultra Boy's father and another goes to Planet Gotham to follow Mordru's trail, Superboy defies orders to time travel. His goal is to tell Damien Wayne of Planet Gotham.

Two groups of Legionnaires are investigating Aquaman's trident. Saturn Girl, Chameleon Boy and others are on Planet Gotham to interrogate Mordru while Ultra Boy's squad goes to Rimbor on a diplomatic mission to talk to his father. However, they are forced to defend themselves and arrest the warrior king. Meanwhile in the midst of trying to question Mordru, Saturn Girl's group is forced to return to the Legion's headquarters. Jon Kent still hasn't seen the orientation presentation, and he has brought Damien Wayne to the future, forcing the Legion to return him to the past and erase his memories of his time travel. They also seem to know something of the current Robin's horrible future. Could Damien become a murderous dictator, or can Jon Kent be a positive influence on the Boy Wonder? The General King of Rimbor has been defeated by Mon-El twice. He is currently in a prison cell at the Legion headquarters. Yet, the superheroes of the future have no time to relax. Alarms are going off left and right. Aquaman's trident has been stolen right out from under the Legion's collective nose.

Jon Kent has finally begun his Legion of Super-Heroes orientation, beginning with the origins of its founding members and its creation by Madam President of the United Planets R.J. Brande. However, Jon may not get to finish said orientation due to a Legion emergency. Aquaman's trident has been stolen, and it's up to the entire Legion, including Superboy, to investigate the theft. Unfortunately, fate is not on the Legion's side. The same Madam President of the United Planets has ordered the Legion to not leave their headquarters. Otherwise, armed science police will take matters into their own hands.

He learns that the Legion's founding members had pure intentions to form the Legion, while Brande may have had ulterior motives. Brainiac 5 felt Superboy must come to the future to learn from the Legion in order to form its values in their past. This is a great surprise to Jon. However, before more could be said or done the discovery of the location of Aquaman's trident forces a warning of three words to appear - Evacuate Earth Immediately.

As people on New Earth evacuate the planet, the Legion is in an all-out battle with the Horraz pirates who stole Aquaman's trident. Mon-El tries to take the trident, thereby unleashing its energy upon the world. This could mean the end or a new beginning for New Earth and the Legion of Super-Heroes. Either way, great change and trying times were sure be on the horizon. Space is not the only setting of intense conflict. The United Planets Great Hall on Daxam is full of it as well, albeit more verbal in this case. Ultra Boy's father, General Nah, is outraged by the Legion's imprisonment of him. Yet, President Brande shows him footage of New Earth's oceans returning thanks to the Legion's actions. Nah vows to go to war as he leaves the chamber, making everyone, including the readers, wonder about one important thing. Will the Legion of Super-Heroes be considered heroes or fugitives?

This leaves many in the Legion proud. However, there is also debate over who should lead them. A meeting is called for Legionaries to vote for the next commander of the team. Their decision will shape the future of the Legion of Super-Heroes forever. The votes have been cast, and Ultra Boy is the Legion's new leader. His first mission in charge may be a difficult one, for his father, Crav has declared that the Legion of Super-Heroes is under arrest. Failure to surrender could mean death.

The Legion of Super-Heroes stands accused of violating laws of the space-time continuum by a member of the Elite Council of the United Planets. Arguments for the defense and the prosecution go on as Mon-El leaves after punching Crav, The General Nah. One thing has become clear as statements from various Legionaries, including the 31st Century's Doctor Fate, are taken. They eventuality reveal a great darkness is coming, and what happens next could affect what the Legion of Super-Heroes must do to stop it from consuming the universe. White Witch reveals that Crav has been trying to grab all the power he could because Rimbor knew of its arrival. The trial, which was a test for the Legion, ends with Gold Lantern taking the general for his final judgment. Meanwhile, Saturn Girl knows of Jon Kent's feelings for her and acts on them by kissing him. The future looks bright and dark all at once for the Legion.

As previously seen, Saturn Girl and Jon Kent have begun a romance. The Legion of Super-Heroes has been exonerated. A search for Mordru the Mad, who had recently escaped prison, has commenced, and Crav the General Nah has been brought to Oa for justice. At the same time, something troubles Gold Lantern and the Legionnaires who had accompanied him. Is a great darkness coming? It is. However, the Guardians of the Universe do not know if the Legion of Super-Heroes will stop it or be the cause of it. Whatever the case may be, one thing is certain. The Legion itself will never be the same after its arrival. As Brainiac Five and Ayla Ranzz discuss diplomacy and the situation with Crav, Crav's son, the Legion's new leader Jo Nah - codenamed Ultra Boy, is trying to move Rimbor forward to a better future. In the process, he has become the new head of Rimbor's government. Meanwhile, Jon Kent and Saturn Girl are among the Legionnaires who have gone to Planet Gotham to investigate Mordru's escape while others try to convince Mon-El to return to the Legion. Doctor Fate has discovered Mordru is on Xanthu, where the villain reveals to one ax wielding enemy of all Krypton, Rogol Zaar, that Jon Kent is in the 31st century. He'll surely have to go through the entire Legion of Super-Heroes if he's to take on the son of Superman.

Introduction

The Legion of Super-Heroes comic book brings together Jon Kent (Superman and Lois' son) as Superboy relocated to the 31st Century where he joins the Legion of Super-Heroes team.
