    As he writes his will Superman realizes his time is quickly running out. He sets about solving Kandor's problem, by relocating them on Mars. He creates his own miniaturized universe, to see how life on Earth would exist without him. He saves Lois from a deranged man in a giant robot. He saves a young girl from committing suicide. Tries to reason with an unreasonable Lex Luthor. Writes down his DNA code for the sake of science, with instructions on how to combine human and Kryptonian strands.

  • All Star Superman #11 (July)
    Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, Jamie Grant
    Having drunk a cocktail of his own making, Luthor has given himself super powers for 24 hours, so that he has no problem surviving the electric chair. Having released the Sun Eater, Superman gives final instructions to his Superman robot, before flying off to perform his final task. Luthor, having escaped, meets with his favorite neice, before venturing outside where red sunlight bathes Metropolis so that he can go up against Superman. Wearing his new solar suit, Superman takes the fight to Solaris, who is eminating the red solar energy, but it's the Sun Eater who returns to attack Solaris, but Solaris kills the Sun Eater, angering Superman, who extinguishes Solaris' power... vanishing in the process. Clark Kent, weak and exhausted hands in the death of Superman story at the Daily Planet before collapsing. Lex Luthor arrives.

  • All Star Superman #12 (October)
    Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, Jamie Grant
    In his subconscious mind, Superman is on Krypton with Jor-El, who tells him he must go back. All-powerful, Lex threatens the Daily Planet staff, before Clark wakes up and uses a gravity gun on Lex, which weighs him down. Superman and Lex fight... but before he can defeat Superman Lex's 24 hour of power runs out. With his cell structure breaking down, Superman knocks out Lex, tells Lois he loves her, and flies off into the sun. A year later, with Superman still gone, P.R.O.J.E.C.T. 2 is under way...
