Two years have passed. The Krypton news network catches us up on what happened last issue. We hear of Nira Ur's findings about the animals' mysterious deaths and Kru-El's attempted takeover of the El family. Meanwhile Jor-El and Zor-El are testing a new dimensional projector that sends Jor-El into a mysterious void that lasts six months for him but only minutes in real time. Jor-El wants to destroy the machine but Zod has other plans. At Kru-El's trial he is found guilty with help from Jor-El's testimony. Two months later at the sentencing Zod, now chief of security, is in charge of Kru's fate. Unbeknownst to Jor-El Zod has confiscated the projector and now plans on sending Kru-El to the Phantom Zone. Jor-El pleads for Zod not to use it because of the danger but it falls on deaf ears. Kru-El is sent to the Phantom Zone. Zod is finally showing his true colors.

3Story - 3: This remains an entertaining story though it feels a little flat. We knew Zod would eventually do something that would split his friendship with the El family but going behind Jor-El's back knowing how dangerous the Phantom Zone projector was is despicable. While I like the way Zod is portrayed I thought we'd have a little more time to examine his relationship with the El family before he turned evil. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this new take on the Phantom Zone. Instead of Jor-El using it to punish criminals he wants to destroy it. Zod is now the one who is responsible. Again it's an entertaining issue but I'm a bit skeptical about how the characters are portrayed and where Venditti is taking them.

4Art - 4: I'm enjoying Oeming's drawings. His art is giving this book a distinctive style. Jor-El's look is very square and neat but Zod's is more dower and sour looking. I like it.

3Cover Art - 3: It's a nice looking cover but it leaves me a bit cold. I suppose it's trying to tell us what we're in for in the book but it just didn't do it for me.

4Variant Cover Art - 4: Just a simple clean drawing of Kru-El giving us a hint of his final fate.
