The Kiss of Death towers over a bleeding Renee Montoya. Before The Kiss can end Renee's life, Jessica Midnight attacks from behind. In her motel room, Lois figures that Renee's been shot as her calls go unanswered. In a last ditch effort, Lois sends texts instructing Renee to put on her Question mask.

The mask is activated, which sparks memories for The Kiss. She and Renee share a history. Realizing what she's done, The Kiss begs Midnight to help save Montoya's life. Fortunately, Jessica has the power to help, but it requires a sacrifice. She borrows a knife from The Kiss and prepares to stab her hand as part of a ritual. Before the blade makes contact with Midnight's hand, The Kiss places her hand in the way, sacrificing herself for Montoya. Some time passes and Renee awakens. Lois manages to make contact with Jessica and is relieved to hear that Montoya is alive.

Several hours later, Lois and Sister Clarice regroup with Jessica and Renee. It turns out that when The Kiss was stabbed by the blade during the ritual to save Montoya, it broke a spell that had been placed on her. The Kiss of Death is no longer a threat as Elicia Sanchez is now free. Sanchez had been cursed by the Religion of Crime for having a romantic relationship with Renee. Apparently, Lois knew the whole time, which was why she sent Renee to get the file from Batman after she picked up on some attraction between the two when Sanchez showed up as a maid. With all of that cleared up, the women settle in to connect the dots of the bigger issue.

3Story - 3: Portions of this story are starting to click. I can't say for certain that this will wrap up in a satisfying manner, but at least we're starting to tie up the loose ends. I'm just a little concerned that we've lost the plot since the first issue. I know I've mentioned it before, but this story feels so disjointed and scattered. I'm hoping for a strong ending. No one likes to be let down by a story. But it's been 11 issues and we've seemingly taken a sharp turn from political thriller to supernatural adventure.

In any case, this issue is written well enough. The dialogue reads naturally and the issue's pacing is just right. My only complaint is that I didn't feel the weight of Renee and Elicia's relationship. To my knowledge, Elicia is a completely new character, but Rucka tries to evoke a sense of history between them that just doesn't work. The revelation of their relationship felt a tad hollow because we're being told they had a past to make up for the fact that we never even knew this character existed before this series.

3Art - 3: It's hard to find new ways to say I'm not crazy about an artist's work eleven times in a row. There's just something about the way Perkins draws eyes that doesn't work for me. They're given dimension, but they look lifeless. On a more positive note, there are some decent panels here and the layout is solid.

3Cover Art - 3: The concept is nice, but I think a little more color would have helped.

5Variant Cover Art - 5: Wow! I'm in love with this variant. The colors, the line work, the illustration. Everything works for me. Perhaps it's just me, but this variant gives me a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas vibe. I know they'd likely never make Lois Lane posters, but if there were ever a piece of art to put on a poster, this would be it.
