Check Out D.J. Cotrona as Superman for Never-Made “Justice League: Mortal” Film

DC Comics fans know well the story about the never-made “Justice League: Mortal” film. With George Miller as director, “Justice League: Mortal” was set to star D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as The Flash, rapper/actor Common as Green Lantern, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord, and Teresa Palmer as Talia al Ghul. The Writer’s strike in 2007 as well as a change in tax break advantages in Australia resulted in the project being cancelled.

DCFilmsHub.com claims to have received a photo of D.J. Cotrona in the “Justice League: Mortal” Superman costume from a source close to the project.

While fans weren’t necessarily sold on the casting choice of D.J. Cotrona, the actor told ComingSoon.net that he was bitterly disappointed the film was dropped after so much work had already gone into it.

“That was a big bummer. I was really, really excited to work with George Miller and the script was really, really good. The stuff that WETA was doing was amazing. It’s just a shame that we didn’t get to finish that because it was going to be really, really cool.”

Kinda bad, but I’d still take it over anything from Superman Lives.

Hmm.. I may be wrong, but my ‘spider-sense’ is telling me this is just a suit mock-up they used for the audition process.

Kinda Rebirth-esque, but the red trunks are a must in my opinion. They provide better color balance. And maybe I’m being super nitpicky, but are those visible lifts in the boots?

Looks like he had blue trunks. But if there is no trunks, I feel the belt should be red at least. It looks so much better, and a round buckle.

Had the boots been red, would have looked very much similar to the MoS suit.

After reading the script online and imagining what it would have been like in my head and seeing this picture, I really wish we would have had this film released 10 years ago. It took elements from Tower of Babel and countdown to infinite crisis and it could have been real cool back then. So sad it never came to fruition.
The costume is really an premonition to Rebirth. Wow!

Well, he’s no Cavill. But at least he isn’t a Cage …

I’m 100% for the red trunks, but it’s stunning to me that they went through the trouble to take them away, then replaced them with blue trunks.

If the problems is “he’s wearing underwear on the outside,” then this doesn’t solve it. They had the same problem with the New 52. Morons.

I don’t get blue boots either. I know the trunks get treated by some as this oh-so awful albatross but who the hell thinks red boots are holding Superman back?

It kinda looks like a combination of the injustice Superman’s \S/ shield cape attachment and the blue boots from rebirth. Definitely not a good look for superman in my opinion.

I don’t know what to say about that look. For me personally, it’s a definite……nope!
