Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Became Superman

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau turned up to the House of Commons for Question Period on October 31 dressed as Clark Kent, revealing the Superman “S” shield underneath his shirt as he walked past photographers.

As he bounced down the stairs of the House he ripped open his shirt saying, “It has to be done”.

Trudeau later took his family “trick or treating” telling reporters that they should be impressed, after all, he was dressed as a journalist.

This isn’t the first time a national politician has been connected with Superman. Then-Senator Barack Obama posed for a photo in front of the large Superman statue in Metropolis, Illinois in 2006.

In the comic books, while both Superman and Lex Luthor have had their turn in the presidential role, Superman has met with actual presidents in various comic book stories over the years.

Well quibble aside it’s all in good fun. I’ll give him props for nailing the classic Clark Kent blue business suit.

I seem to recall Barack Obama hanging around Metropolis when he was still a candidate, not as President.

I caught this on Twitter without a comment and I actually couldn’t tell it was Trudeau at first, because I was so fixated on how much that guy that walks down the stairs looks like he’s dressed like Clark Kent.

I think I just proved the validity of the Superman disguise.

Or I’m simply an idiot. Either way, good times.

Well, yes there is some suspension of disbelief required for Clark’s disguise but at the same time it’s plausibility is IMO grossly under estimated by folks acting as though people in the world of the story know and see everything we do as the audience. Admittedly, Justin looks considerably less pretty boy than usual with his hair that way and the big glasses. If you saw this guy walking down the street and had no reason to believe Justin Trudeau was going to be hanging out in your neighborhood you’d just think he was some nerdy looking dude and not… Read more »
