EW this morning released a first look at Brandon Routh in his Crisis on Infinite Earths Superman costume, seen above, which strongly resembles the Kingdom Come costume from the comics.
According to the accompanying article:
When Routh stopped by EW’s San Diego Comic-Con studio in July, he said he was excited about stepping back into the Boy Scout’s shoes. “It’s an opportunity for me to kind of say hello and goodbye to the character in a way I didn’t get to the first time,” Routh previously told EW. “Being a young individual of 24, 25, I thought, ‘Oh, I’m going to do this for years and make multiple movies.’ And that of course didn’t happen. I’m just very honored to be able to do this one last time.”
I never thought I’d see the day where Routh would put on the cape again, but here we are. It looks fantastic!
Hey Brandon….that’s a niiice outfiiit.
I’m sold. Welcome back to basics Mr. Routh. This will be epic.
I got a good laugh out of that first line lol
Pun intended of course hehehe
You can see a certain Superman Returns lineage in the suit; specifically the raised S shield and the texture of the fabric of the bodysuit. But it definitely stays close to the source comic. I like it.
After seeing this image, I really really really really really really want to see a new Superman tv series with Brandon in this new suit. Please Please Please! CW! Or Syfi, or HBO, Please make this Happen. This photo really really really makes me happy. Brandon looks great as Superman again. The blues in his suit are blue! The reds in his suit are red and not that muddy dark burgundy color from Superman Returns. And the S insignia is big! I love this look!!! Brandon looks so much better than he did in Superman Returns! He looks way better… Read more »
As much as I like his look and not to be on a downer, the CW has a way of doing things their way and I’ve found too many disappointments in their past decisions with these cross overs. Lets hope they don’t screw this up.
Let’s hope that they don’t mess this up redcape.
Agreed redcape. I just hope they don’t screw Superman over again.
He looks better here because he has a much more flaterring suit design. Brandon was stronger on 2006 when he was shooting “Superman returns” but the used for his suit a special fabric because it didn´t crease but this fabric squeeze Brandon´s muscles made the look smaller. On the other side the Return´s costume have the trunks situated on a very low level, making the torso section longer, and creating a slendering image of the actor tha made him to look not so phisically strong and reduced Brandon Routh´s commanding e phisically impossing presence: And the hairstyle of Routh´s Superman… Read more »
13 years since Superman Returns graced the big screen. Brandon looks fantastic and as far as I’m concerned can step into a Superman role and pull it off NOW as good as he did then!!
CW, please take notice on the positive responses from all of us on what you have just shown us for Brandon’s Superman. You could have something really good here.
They had the guts to just do the costume. Trunks and all!
Ha! True MattComics! Very true!
But it definitely works for Brandon.
That is probably the most impressive part. They didn’t shy away from the source material, they went all the way for it. Very proud of them for doing that.
And it looks phenomenal. But like you said, hopefully it won’t be Brandon simply being zipped into a portal without so much as a gasp from the rest, like 90s Flash. 🙁
Who said it will only be “one last time”?
I hope it’s not a one last time kinda thing. I would definitely watch Brandon as this version of Superman for a movie or tv series. In fact given a choice between Brandon’s Superman or Tyler’s, I would happily pick Brandon. And I’m a fan of Tyler’s Superman.( No offense Tyler)
Nice interpretation of Alex Ross’s Kingdom Come Superman costume for live action
This makes me very upset that we didn’t get to see his story evolve…
It is so upsetting when actors get betrayed by bad decisions …Why an illegitimate child?! why ?! how?!? who would think that was a good idea?!?…
He could have been a great Superman with a better story (and better costume)..
but this looks epic…
Everyone, all together now. Say it with me!
Three Cheers for
Superman!
Superman!
Superman!
Ha ha. This makes me so happy!
Superman!
Superman!
Superman!
Yes!
Yes!
Yes!
Superman!
Superman!
Superman!
Let the world hear that name!
SUPERMAN!!!!
Ha ha!!!!
If you like the Kingdom Come look then by all means continue to like it. Only speaking for myself but that Superman outfit is just ugly. I never have liked that look. I mean those are some huge red panties and that S-symbol is just yuck. I love the Man of steel look the most. I just can’t with this grandpa looking sups. However I’m still looking forward to the crossover and I like Brandon Routh as an actor but I absolutely hated Superman Returns. However even though I don’t perfer this look I did like the Kingdom Come story… Read more »
Everyone has their own preferences for Superman. I prefer Reeve’s style the most, but I also like where they’re going with this new look. Brandon pulls it off with style! So cool. Just so cool.
“Brandon pulls it off with style!” I meant to use the explanation mark to express excitement for Brandon’s new look. I wasn’t trying to be mean or anything. Did it sound mean? I hope not. If it did I’m sorry about that. I guess sometimes a sentence can be taken out of context the way it’s written sometimes.
If you don’t like the trunks that’s fine but it’s bad enough when non-fans who want to make themselves look edgy or macho call them underwear or panties. Hearing that crap from another Superman fan is just even more needless and insulting. The term is trunks. As for him being “grandpa looking” the character is supposed to be a version of a Clark that’s much older. Not having him look older would be like having someone in their 50’s portraying Clark in high-school.
I understand your feelings regarding the suit. I’ve never cared for it much myself. But I would say that the colors look pretty good and way better than I thought they would. Imagine that suit cleaned up with the traditional colors and a little more detailing to the trunks and I think he would look as good as any. And far better than the suit he wore in SR. Sorry as well you hated SR as well. They were trying to accomplish making Superman relevant again using a combination of old mixed with some new but Singer and Co. added… Read more »
He looks AMAZING! And dare I say, better than he did 15 years ago. Welcome back to the blue tights, Brandon. We’ve missed this.
Exactly Lana2k5! Well said! I so missed this!
This suit is much more better designed that the one 15 years ago(The collar, the “S” size, the trunk height, all theese thingsare much more better).
And I wanted to point one big improvement over the last Super suit, that’s are NO CAPE STRAPS!!! BIG IMPROVEMENT am I right?
Oops! I meant to say that “there are no cape straps!”, and not “that’s are no cape straps!”
“That’s are”? Ha ha ha.
Jeepers Creepers! He looks moar like Christopher Reeve as he did back in ’06!
Anyone else? 😎
I know right, this is so cool!
A lot of people have suggested that. But not for me. I see very little of CR in him. However one part in SR I didn’t really care for was the exaggerated and almost plastic look his air had when there was talking scenes and the spit curl looked too manufactured.
Just Awesome!
He looks FANTASTIC!!!!!!
So true Randarch. So true.
