Even though I know that Brandon now plays the Atom, I just don’t see it. He still looks like Superman to me. What I see is Superman in another superhero’s superhero suit. I wish that they would just bring back Brandon’s Superman through a multiverse episode. They did it for Shipps Flash in this latest crossover. Which says to me that more than one actor can play the role of a Superhero. I say bring back Routh’s Superman for a few episodes on Supergirl or the Flash or even legends of tomorrow just to see how it turns out. Don’t… Read more »

Roth and crew got shafted over SR. I still go down as saying the WB/DC should have been ignored the internet and media babbling and gone on with a sequel. Although SR obviously paired itself with the STM CR era, it had elements in it that for some reason the average movie goer along with the hard core couldn’t relate to. And of course the internet and media experts that once the movie was under way, came out and instead of embracing it and the fact that after all the years had passed, ignored that we had a Superman movie,… Read more »

It’s just such a shame that they didn’t give us a sequel. I really wanted to see more of this version of Superman. See more development of this version. I liked the Reeve angle that they went for, but by ending it prematurely, I feel that they missed out on expanding it. Sigh… I kinda feel like on Legends of Tomorrow, they purposely remind the audience of his time as Superman from time to time. Knowing that we probably won’t see him as Superman again, I kinda feel that it’s a bit of a tease in a way. I still… Read more »

Routh has been the subject of more Superman references throughout the Arrowverse than I can count. From his first flight as the Atom in Arrow S3E15, to his All-Star Team-Up with the Flash and his friends (The Flash S1E18), to the cousin references in Invasion! and Crisis on Earth-X, he’s definitely proved to be a fan favorite. As for him possibly returning, I see this working in one of two ways: One would be a Legends episode where the team travels to 1977 New York City during the time of the massive blackout and the Son of Sam murders. Now,… Read more »

This still irritates me that SR is almost being treated like a foot note. It happened but we all just look the other way. The movie itself from a story stand point was at times some what odd, but IT WAS well made! It just seemed like at the time people couldn’t figure out or just flat out refused to acknowledge what they were trying to accomplish. Singer took a lot of flack in much the same fashion that Snyder had. Can’t win!!

It is a shame redcape. Was it perfect? No, but certainly it wasn’t a horrible film. I thought it was a well made. Routh had a lot of potential for Superman for further Superman films. It’s a shame that WB decided to abandon any possible sequels.

I think the indecision by Warner Brothers, the other projects from BS* and his writers, along with the Writers’ Strike of 2007-08, were what ultimately prompted the studio to reboot.

(*BS = the director of Superman Returns whom I am trying not to name given his recent personal issues)

You’d like to think that some of what you say played into it. BUT….the bottom line is, it didn’t do as well at the BO as what was expected. Interview with WB exec stated that it needed(should) have made that extra 100mil. SR back then cost as much to make as it would now a day. If you look at the cost and profit margin it unfortunately would be considered a failure. It was also stated that the direction of going back to the CR era was “probably” a mistake and probably should have started over with no reference to… Read more »
