Bendis Reveals His Plans for the DCU’s Two Superboys

Writer Brian Michael Bendis has revealed via an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit that he has plans to resolve the confusion surrounding the Superboy situation.

At the moment there are two Superboys running around within DC’s comic books. One is Jon Kent, the recently aged teenage son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane; and the other is the recently returned Connor Kent, the teenage clone.

When asked if the two would ever meet and resolve who is who, Bendis revealed, “Jon and Conner will meet and work that out. On panel. PROMISE.”

As for the title of “Superboy”, Bendis explained that “there will be some rebranding and some new looks. Change is good!”

While he didn’t reveal which of the boys would be getting either a new name or a new look, we should soon be able to differentiate between the two Superboys going forward.

Remember when we weren’t allowed to have any Superboys because of that lawsuit shenanigans

So will one of them be called Superteen or Superguy or Superdude, while the other will be Superboy? Will it be like how Tim Drake changed his alter ego from Robin to Red Robin because Damien Wayne became Robin? I don’t know what to think about this.

It basically sets up a scenario where one characters fans have to lose which is just not fun at all. I personally think that if there is to be a character named Superboy I love the idea that it’s Superman’s son more than being a teen clone or Clark in his youth. But at the same time I totally respect that for many years that’s been Conners name whether you came to the character in the Death/Return days or Young Justice. It’s like when Kyle Rayner was turned into “Ion”. Well okay thank you for not killing him off but… Read more »

I can see what you are saying MattComics. For many years I had read comics about Conner as Superboy. But then they stopped writing about his Superboy and introduced Clark’s and Lois’s son Jon and made him into the new Superboy. And for the past three years Jon has been Superboy. Now they bring back Conner as Superboy, and we have the question on who will be Superboy? While I do like the Conner version of Superboy, I just don’t see him as Superboy anymore. That’s not to say that he’s not a Superboy. He’s still a version of Superboy,… Read more »

I have a lot of love for Conner, but feel Jon should be “Superboy”. I really have no problem with them rebranding Conner. Scion? Powerboy?

I’ve come to enjoy Jonathan Kent in his own right. But Conner is the one, true (non-Kal-El) Superboy. Though if I were a gambling man, I’d wager on Jonathan getting the title :/

Not saying they will do this, but they could always have Super Son & Superboy though I do like the Boy of Steel, though that’s kind of long and not crazy about Powerboy plus wasn’t there a PowerBoy before. Wish they just get rid of Bendis to be honest, he seems to be really messing things up that everyone had set up for Clark, Lois & Jon before he came along.

SuperDude?
SuperGuy?
Superman jr?
Superman X?
SuperNova?
Super clone?
Superboy 2?
SuperBro?
PowerBoy?
PowerMan?(not sure if they could use that one since I’m pretty sure Marvel has a PowerMan)
Maybe KryptonMan? Or KryptonBoy?
How about The Kryptonian?
One of them could be called Valor if Mon-el isn’t using that title.
Or Conner could use the his Kryptonian name Kon-el for his Superhero name.
Or how about SuperHero? SuperHeroMan? SuperHeroBoy?
HeroMan?
HeroBoy?
…….
Hero????

They can’t go with He-Man. It’s being used.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

Ok I admit. Half of those were a joke, but in all seriousness, I don’t like where this is going with either of the Superboys.

Him taking up the name “Valor” isn’t a bad idea.

I totally agree. Valor could work.
