As we reported last week, rumors have persisted for some time now that game developer Rocksteady Studios has been working on a Superman video game. These rumors resurfaced when a new listing from Rocksteady Studios appeared on Game System Requirements with the title of “Superman: World’s Finest”. Speculation was high that the developer of the hugely popular “Batman: Arkham” series would finally make an announcement at “The Game Awards” on December 6.
Unfortunately, the rumors are false. Rocksteady Studios game director and co-founder Sefton Hill posted on Twitter that they’re next announcement is NOT a Superman video game.
Looking forward to #TheGameAwards this year! We’re still hard at work in our development bunker so don’t expect an announcement from @Rocksteadygames. When it’s ready to show, you’ll be the first to know. Spoiler: it’s not Superman 🙁

I guess Superman fans will have to wait a little longer for a new video game.
Bummer but not surprised, that proves developers are not creative enough to make a Superman game.
This is disappointing. I was really hoping for a new Superman video game. I guess I’m just going to have to wait a bit longer unfortunately.
Well if you look at the history of Rocksteady and what all the developers have said in the past when asked about Superman, this was expected.
They’ve always said something along the lines of Superman was a great character, but not right for gaming.
That is true.
In their limited viewpoint, yes. Developers always stick to fighting, surviving against bad guys, that’s it. Not willing to think out of the box and make unique challenges that fit with Superman’s character. Seems to me most people really don’t understand what Superman does the best, SAVE people.
Hey, I’m sure some game developers are hiring, go pitch your ideas! WB game studios is always looking to make money off of their IPs. 🙂
And don’t get all mad and start blaming them. If they don’t want to do it, then they don’t want to do it. It’s not their fault if they are not interested in doing a Superman game because it doesn’t fit the creative direction they want to go.
Oh for f– sake. Okay, Warner Brothers? Listen to me. If you find a proper Superman game too hard to make, go small. Cuphead-style, boss run, 2D beat’em’up, Golden Age-inspired Superman, with Fleischer studios-like animation. Sell it for 30 bucks across all platforms.
There were some games like that for iPad a few years ago, right around the same time MoS marketing campaign kicked off. They were not inspired by that time period though. There was a 2D Superman game where you had to defend Metropolis and fight enemies.
Then there was a kind of top down JL game where you could choose your character, so you could play the whole game as Superman.
I don’t think they sold very well, but I found them fun enough.
“not right for gaming” That is so dumb. My guess is that they are from the “Oh he’s too powerful” school of thought. I think the first thing game makers would need to consider is that he’s a superhero but also a science fiction character. You’ve got options for alien monsters and robots rather than having to figure a way to make street level thugs challenging for him. (though if you needed that there could always be Intergang giving them advanced tech.) If power level were that much of a concern you could always go more STAS with it. I… Read more »
These rumors have been circulating for quite a long time, and now they decide to make an official statement? Wish they had said something sooner. Also wish they weren’t so heavy handed with the Superman references/Easter eggs in Arkham Knight. I know there are references for other DC characters in the game, but Superman seemed to the most prominent, and felt like it was pointing towards a future game. Oh well… I’d gladly take another Batman game instead, but I doubt Rocksteady themselves would handle that. (WB Montreal maybe) It will probably be something stupid like a Suicide Squad, Joker,… Read more »
approuty brings up a very good point actually. I mean I like seeing Superman have punch outs as much as the next guy but there would be room in a game to have super-feats and super rescues both large and small. One of the appealing things about the Spider-Man came was you could do little missions where Spidey just helps people, really living up that whole “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” thing. There’s even one where he helps a homeless person find his missing pigeons! Also imagine something along the lines having to repair the San Andres fault and save people from… Read more »
I really really really want this game to happen. Superman is due for a good game. I can’t even think of when he last had his own game.( I’m not including the inexcusable injustice games because Superman wasn’t the hero nor was he the main character.)
Arnold Schwarzenegger voice: ‘No Zuhpermann for you! 😛
Ha ha ha I get it, cause he said “ no sequel for you” in the last action hero.
Maybe I should “ get to the choppa!” Lol. Arnold has some of the best lines.
And if you won’t get to the choppaa…then GET DOOWHN!
And remember, “I’ll be back!”
“ There is no bathroom!”
