August 3, 2016: “Batman v Superman” Tops Blu-ray Sales Charts

160602-BvSUltimateEdBluray1The Ultimate Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo release of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” debuted at No. 1 on the NPD VideoScan First Alert sales chart, a chart which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, as well as the dedicated Blu-ray Disc chart, for the week ending July 24.

The extended cut is available only on the “Ultimate Edition” Blu-ray copies of the movie, not the standalone DVD version, and the first week of release for “Batman v Superman” saw 70% of its copies sold coming from the Blu-ray format – one of the highest first-week Blu-ray percentages ever for a major theatrical release new to disc (the record is the 83% put up by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” earlier this year).

Purchase “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” as a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Ultimate Edition 3D Blu-ray, Ultimate Edition Blu-ray, and on DVD from our Online Store.

No kidding. I was genuinely excited to see Suicide Squad because Zack Snyder wasn’t behind the camera and looked like a lot of fun. Oh well….

Yeah I’m still gonna go see it, but I’m sure that yet again it won’t have the legs that DC was hoping for.

Guys I just watched Suicide Squad less than 2 hours ago.. All I can say is… It was FANTASTIC!!! Forget what the critics are writing, this film is fun, full of action and furthers the DC Cinematic Universe narrative. Also Superman’s presence/influence and importance is felt in the first quarter of this film! It’s not as dark as BvS, and its not all sunshine and roses like some other comic movies. If I can say anything, it’s PLEASE make up your own mind about it, forget the critics, and go watch it! Also, I’m glad that the BvS bluray’s are… Read more »

I will hold judgment until I see it. However, if it’s as bad as critics state and underperforms at the BO, what kind of effects will this have on other DC properties?

None. It’s doing to open big and even if the reviews hurt it like it did BvS it will still pull in close to 300 million…if current tracking holds. Budget was only 175 I think…so combine with international grosses and it will be a success..this isn’t fantastic four all over again

Always the optimist, Steve. This is 3 films in a row with rotten reviews. If it underperforms expectations then it will be the third in that category for DC as well. Eventually, WB/DC won’t be able to use the “wait for the Blu-ray extended cut” excuse, as I hear this movie is just as choppy as BvS. Didn’t you say back in March that a lot was riding on this particular film being a success? Word of mouth will affect the BO, that much is all but guaranteed. That’s unfortunate, because I really did want this one to be good… Read more »

Lol..yes..I’m an optimist…and yes I did. But we know 2 things since March that changes my thoughts. I’m in my phone so bear with me. First. Back then we really didn’t know the effect on JL and whether they wouldn’t scuttle the whole damn thing..we now know that they are moving full speed ahead and are adjusting their tone. The JL scenes are getting two thumbs up for the most part…so the worry is disappearing….slowly. but still diminishin . 2- the ultimate edition cut cameach out to rave reviews. Consensus is that the original vision of Snyder should have been… Read more »

WBS needs to let DC and the film makers do their thing. They need to give them control. Get out of their own damn way..

Well said Steve! This is exactly what WB need to do! Give the film makers the free reign and watch that money roll in! And we, the fans and audience in general, will get brilliantly made movies for a long time to come!

I wont lie, yes there is a little choppiness in the editing that was noticeable early on, but the film really is great. I liked BvS, I love the Ultimate Cut, however I loved this film coming out the theater. I loved as much as I did Guardians of the Galaxy. I was pleasantly surprised, and it had a stellar cast!

Honestly, critics are haters! I wont lie, I am starting to feel that some critics may be paid off to badly review DC/WB.

Go watch it, make up your own mind!

How can I make up my own mind, when you’re telling me what to do? 😉

Wait, this is just Ultimate Cut, not theatrical? If so, that’s actually really good for a number of reasons.

Great news for BvS and as for the negative about Suicide Squad…. Ive seen it twice already. Its not a MASTERPIECE, but it is a fun ride and the characters are great.

WB execs need to let their creatives do their thing and stop interfering and I think WB/DC and the fans will all be happier overall though. WB will make the money they expect and fans will be happy to see the characters come to life in quality movies.
