Alan Tudyk Talks “Superman” and Ad-Libbing the Name “Gary”

Participating in round table interviews at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, Alan Tudyk revealed that he came up with the name “Gary” during filming of the final scene for James Gunn’s “Superman” movie.

As the voice of the Superman Robot originally known as No. 4, Tudyk suggested to David Corenswet that the robot should be given a name. James Gunn wasn’t sure about the idea, unsure whether a joke was needed at that part of the film, but the heartfelt moment was retained in the final cut, and now No. 4 is forever known as Gary.
