Season 2 - Episode 14: "Runaways"

Reviewed by: Isaac Frisbie

4Rating - 4 (out of 5): You know, for filler this didn't feel like filler at all. Blue Beetle is now being controlled by the Reach (since the Green Beetle re-booted the blue scarab). That was an unfortunate plot twist at the end.

I feel like some of the girl power that I loved earlier in the season has waned off. The one girl in the group of runaways was a Japanese girl named Asami who didn't speak hardly at all. I know she doesn't speak English but still. We've had a big shortage of girls to balance out all this testosterone and that's my one major complaint. They reduced what could have been a more interesting character.

That being said, I loved seeing Static Shock highlighted in this episode and Tye (as Apache Chief from Super Friends).

I think the reason this episode was good for me was we kept hearing about kids being experimented on that had a latent metagene. This episode we finally got to see what is going on with them.

And of course Luthor is always scheming. He's so convincing and devious, he's very good at manipulating a scenario to his own ends. That's why he's the world's "Greatest Criminal Mastermind".

I'm very pleased with Blue Beetle being featured so much and so well in this season (pay attention DC because you've been doing it wrong for so long with this character). I'm sad that this show will likely go away since they announced its cancellation, but I'm so happy that a character that normally doesn't get much love is being written very well. I hope they close this show out well.
