In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tyler Hoechlin speaks about being cast to play Superman in Season 2 of “Supergirl”, and how he’ll be portraying the character. Here’s part of the interview:

“It’s Superman as I think he was intended to be,” Hoechlin says of his version of the Supes, “which is just an incredible symbol of hope to kids that they can do anything, that they can be good people, and that good people can triumph over evil. You don’t have to be dark and brooding and always in this state of masculine toughness. He sits in that very hopeful and optimistic place that Kara tends to be in.”

Looking forward to this. Hopefully Tyler does well that WB would give Superman more attention, other than Batman.

Hopefully we’ll be lucky enough WB and the CW will proceed to commission his own TV series. And maybe he’ll pop up on other DC TV shows as well.

I’m sorry… I love what he is saying .. but that costume just takes me out of the moment…. It is just awful here…. Let’s hope it looks better in motion… because it is really hard for me to accept how amateurish and just down right silly it looks… Henry Cavill’s Superman, but with this sentiment… there you have something. He doesn’t need the state of perpetual masculine toughness, because he exudes masculinity, and looks tough. So that when He shows kindness, gentleness and goodness, it resonates more… When you look like Fred Rogers in his cardigan, and say you… Read more »

IMHO and as a long time Superman fan of over 50 years the costume doesn’t look to me like it’s amateurish or silly. Tyler Hoechlin really does looks like Superman in the suit. Cannot wait to see his performance in his role as Superman when the second season of Supergirl premieres. Great Krypton! It’ll be SUPER! 😉

“It’s Superman as I think he was intended to be”

No, it’s not, Superman as he’s intended to be has red trunks and a cape that’s not plastic plastered onto his chest. But here’s hoping you maybe got the personality right if nothing else….they’ve already ruined the costume…

I consider myself a bit of a purist when it comes to Superman’s costume (blue tights, red cape/boots/trunks). This suit may be the first one I like which doesn’t have the trunks, and I’m fine with that.

I’m thinking his performance will be great. I certainly hope so, anyway.

That said, maybe we’ll get REALLY lucky and Cisco will meet Superman and make some changes. Imo, he can start with making the red and gold on the rest of the suit match the brighter tones on the cape. 🙂

You have an unhealthy obsession with Superman’s crotch, you should seek help.

This is readily apparent that he is speaking of the CHARACTER, you know, that which is really important.

Look, I prefer the trunks as well… but Superman as he was intended to be? He didn’t fly, he would leap tall buildings in a single bound. The S shield, as intended to be? Looked more like a police badge than the diamond we know it as today.

…That said, the cape connecting to the emblem remind me of that one Nic Care test shot. Clothes don’t maketh the Superman, though. As long as he acts the part, I can look beyond the… um, look.

The actor usually doesn’t have that much input on the suit and other than the Cape attachment it’s not all that bad. I think Tyler has the right idea and can’t wait to see what he does.

Just for the heck of it (while waiting for my studio PC to finish something), I decided to try this: Interestingly, I didn’t have to brighten the yellow.. with a brighter red, the yellow was fine. I love the classic suit, and I certainly like the color of my fixed “S” better (and the cape), but I do notice that he looks shorter. His body type is such that he looks taller and more commanding without the trunks (imo). If they were to just brighten the red (make it more saturated ala Supergirl’s) and modify the cape, I think… Read more »

He certainly does look good in the suit. Like it better without the trunks too.

If you take this costume, Rebirth, New 52 or MOS and compare it side by side against the classic design the latter will always look much better (traditionally speaking). However, when you look at any of the costumes mentioned above and analyze them on their own merits, most of the times they hold their own in terms of design.
