When the director CHANGES important parts of the story like Superman killing Zod, that wasn’t intended, and many others, he becomes a writer. One thing is to add certain tweak because he can’t/doesn’t know how to film it. Changing the story dramatically is writing. Turning the original script, THE ONE THE EXECUTIVES APROVED into something wasn’t intended is rewriting thus writing.
And yes, I think Henry Cavill should stay in the movies. He’s a great actor that has done a great job with Superman. The problem is not him, it is the carácter itself (in the movie of course).
