(7/31/02) ------------------ CHARACTER PROFILES ------------------ SUPERMAN The greatest hero of all time, Superman guards Metropolis and the world against all evil forces. THE CYBORG Half man, half machine. Cyborg's organic parts match Superman's DNA identically while his metallic parts appear Kryptonian in origin. Is this Superman rebuilt? THE ERADICATOR Regenerated within the Fortress of Solitude, the Eradicator is Superman reborn. Or is he? SUPERBOY Created within the genetic tubes of the Cadmus Project, Superboy claims to be a teenage clone of superman. THE MAN OF STEEL A.K.A. John Henry Irons, former special weapons designer for Westin Technologies, The Man of Steel has pledged his life to carrying on Superman's legacy of justice. -------- CONTROLS -------- Control pad - Walk, fly Start - Start game, pause Select - Not used Y - Attack, pick up and throw objects X - Special crystal B - Jump, double-tap to fly A - Special (stuns opponent) L - Move to foreground (while flying) R - Move to background (while flying) Throwing Your Enemy You can pick up your enemy by walking close to him. Once he is in your grasp, hold either up, down, left, or right and press Y to throw him in a certain way. Holding down, left, or right then pressing Y will throw him in that direction. Holding up and pressing Y will throw the enemy into the background, which is usually a building. Throwing your opponent into a certain spot of the building can sometimes reveal hidden items and power-ups. Special Crystal You start the game off with three special crystals. They are indicated by the red dots below your life meter. When you press X, you will use one of those crystals. It kills enemy on-screen instantly (except bosses). If you use on a boss, it will take some of the boss's life away. You can have a total of five special crystals at a time. --------------------------- SPECIAL ICONS AND POWER-UPS --------------------------- Red and Yellow "S" Symbol - Special crystal. Can only have 5 total. Light Blue "S" Symbol - Restores a small amount of health. Dark Blue "S" Symbol - Restores a larger amount of health. 1up Icon - Gives you an extra life! ------------ SPECIAL NOTE ------------ There WILL be spoilers in this FAQ. ----------- WALKTHROUGH ----------- Metropolis. Present Day. A peaceful summer evening when suddenly... A complete power failure! Deep inside the Metropolis Power Plant, the Underworlders celebrate their takeover. "This look like a job for...SUPERMAN!" LEVEL 1 SIEGE OF THE UNDERWORLDERS You will start off fighting one blue Rambeau. All Rambeaus only punch for an attack, so you do not need to worry about any projectiles that they may have. He is very easy, and he has little health. Finish him off. Next will be a single red Rambeau. He has more health, but he is still easy. After you finish the red Rambeau off, an arrow will tell you to go right. Follow it. Soon enough, a red Rambeau and an Eyegor will appear. Eyegors have machine guns that they shoot at you. If you are quick, you can avoid it. I suggest finishing off the Eyegor quickly. You can either punch him, or you can throw the object at him. After you kill the Eyegor, a second red Rambeau will appear. Quickly finish the two Rambeaus off. After they are killed, a blue Rambeau will appear. Finish him off as well. Follow the arrow. Pick up the light blue icon to restore some of your health, then fly over the electricity. You will be greeted with another blue Rambeau and an Eyegor. Killing off the blue Rambeau will make another one appear. Kill it. After defeating the Eyegor, a red Rambeau will attack you. Defeat it. Follow the arrow to the right. You will be greeted with a red Rambeau and a blue one. Killing them will make another blue Rambeau and an Eyegor attack you. Follow the arrow. You will come across two electric barriers with a yellow and blue icon. If you are low on health, just fly over them and forget the icon. If you are high on health, fly to the middle, then land on the icon. Use the L and R buttons if you have to. Then fly over the second barrier. You will have a blue Rambeau and an Eyegor to contend with. Now the CPU will take over your character for a brief moment. You will regain control when you are on the elevator. When you regain control, you will notice a dark blue icon on the lower left-hand corner. If you are low on health, pick it up. Otherwise, wait. The first set of monsters you will have to fight is a red Rambeau and an Eyegor. As usual, finish off the Eyegor, then go for the Rambeau. The elevator will go down once you finish them off. It will stop again, and a red Rambeau and a blue Rambeau will greet you. Finish them off. After them, you will be introduced to a new baddie, a Tick. This guy is fairly simple. You can easily tell when he is going to attack. He rolls up into a ball and charges up. You can still attack him in this state. But if you don't act quickly, he will hurl across the screen and try to attack you. So finish him off quickly. After you do so, the elevator will go down another level. You will have to fight a blue Rambeau and a Tick. When you are done with them, a red Rambeau will attack you. The elevator will go down yet another floor, and you will have to fight off a red Rambeau and another Tick. Then a blue Rambeau and another Tick will attack you. The elevator will go down another floor, and you will have to fight off an Eyegor. If you haven't picked up the dark blue icon by now, do so, because you will be getting off the elevator momentarily. Once you get off of the elevator, a blue Rambeau and an Eyegor will attack you. Once they are gone, a Tick riding some kind of hovercraft will attack you. Use your heat vision (the A button) to shoot him down. It will only take one hit to destroy the ship. Once it is destroyed, finish off the tick like you usually would. Follow the arrow. You will get to a screen with another dark blue icon. Don't pick it up just yet, as you are about to be attacked by falling rocks. The best way to avoid them is by looking at the bottom of your screen. You will see the shadow of where the rocks are about to fall. Simply avoid them. I suggest just walking out of the way, as opposed to flying. Once the rocks stop falling, you can pick up the dark blue "S" icon. Follow the arrow. A Tick and an Eyegor will attack you. After they are gone, a blue Rambeau and a Tick in the hovercraft will attack you. Kill off the Rambeau, then bring down the hovercraft the same way you did last time, then finish off the Tick as usual. A red Rambeau will also attack you. Follow the arrow once again. A red Rambeau and a Tick will attack you. When they are gone, a blue Rambeau and an Eyegor will attack you. When they are gone, you will have to battle with yet another red Rambeau. Follow the arrow. You will have to deal with more falling objects. Use the same strategy as you did last time to maneuver around them. When the objects are done falling, walk to the right. A Tick and a red Rambeau will ambush you. When they are finished, you will have to deal with an Eyegor and a red Rambeau. After that, you will have a red Rambeau and a blue Rambeau to contend with. Make sure to pick up the red and yellow icon, then follow the arrow. Now you will have to contend with your first boss, Clawster. The best way to defeat Clawster is to throw him into a corner, then keep on hitting Y to attack him. That is the simplest and safest way to defeat him. Congratulations! -------------- NEWS FLASH!!! A being of unknown origin is heading for Metropolis destroying everything in its path. Not even the Justice League can stop it. Doomsday is here! Only Superman can save us now. LEVEL 2 DOOMSDAY IN METROPOLIS Be careful not to be under the weight that keeps on moving up and down. You will start off fighting a ChainSaw and a Molotov. ChainSaw enemies use only their chain saw to attack you. Molotov enemies throw fire at you, so be careful when fighting the Molotov. Throw an enemy into the third wooden section from the left to receive a 1up icon. You will also have another ChainSaw to contend with. Follow the arrow, and fly down the building. When you land, a ChainSaw and a Molotov will attack you. Throw one of the enemies onto the third wooden section from the left to reveal a red and yellow "S" icon, which will give you another special crystal. When they are gone, another ChainSaw and another Molotov will attack you. Follow the arrow, and fly down the building. Look out, as a ChainSaw on a motorcycle will attack you. Destroy the motorcycle like you would the hovercraft that the Tick was on. When he is off the motorcycle, another ChainSaw and another Molotov will attack. Throw an enemy to the immediate right of the pipe to reveal a dark blue icon, which will restore some health. When they are defeated, another Molotov and another ChainSaw will attack you. Follow the arrow. A ChainSaw and a Molotov will attack you. Once they are defeated, three ChainSaws will attack you, with one riding a motorcycle. Defeat them. Follow the arrow, and fly up the building. Throw an enemy to the wooden section to the immediate right of the gap to reveal a dark blue "S" icon. Do not pick it up just yet unless you are extremely low on health. A ChainSaw and a Molotov will attack you. When they are gone, you will have your first encounter with Doomsday. The best way to defeat Doomsday is to use the same tactics that you did with Clawster. If you need to pick up the health icon during your encounter with Doomsday, go right ahead. Once you have defeated him, you will chase him into Metropolis. The level is not over yet, folks! A ChainSaw and a Molotov will attack you. Throw one of them into the glass on the very left to reveal a light blue icon, which will restore a small amount of your health. Defeat the second ChainSaw, then follow the arrow. Fly up the building, then contend with the ChainSaw and the Molotov. You can throw the crate in the middle of the screen at them if you wish. You will have to deal with a second ChainSaw and a second Molotov when the first set is defeated. Follow the arrow, and fly down the building. Get the ChainSaw off of his motorcycle. Pick up the health if you need it. A ChainSaw and a Molotov will appear. Throw one of them at the glass window on the right to reveal a red and yellow "S" icon. When the enemies are defeated, prepare to fight another ChainSaw and another Molotov. Follow the arrow. When you are at the part were a Molotov and a ChainSaw attack you, fly up! Pick up the 1up icon that is way up high, then land back down and kill off the enemies. You will then have to deal with two ChainSaws, one riding a motorcycle. You will also get to fight a Molotov. Follow the arrow and fly up the building. Defeat the Molotov and the ChainSaw. Then, defeat the ChainSaw and the two Molotovs. Follow the arrow and fly down the building. Defeat the ChainSaw and the Molotov. Then defeat the two ChainSaws and the Molotov. Follow the arrow, then kill off the ChainSaw and the Molotov. Then finish the two ChainSaws and the Molotov. Follow the arrow, and prepare for your final fight with Doomsday. Use the same tactics as you did the first time to defeat him. In the end, however, we all know that both combatants will fall. -------------- To save the city, Superman gave all his and more. The world will forever mourn this day as the day its greatest hero fell. Who will defend us now? NEWS FLASH!!! Reports of Superman sightings are pouring in from all over the city. Some folks claim to have seen a Superman that is half man, half machine. Others claim to have seen a Superman who is the same, yet somehow changed. Still others believe they have seen a young Superboy. Finally, we have received eyewitness reports of a man made of steel. Who is the real Superman? LEVEL 3 ASSAULT ON CADMUS This is your first level as one of the new Supermen. You will not be able to play as Superman again until the final level of the game. You start out in a horizontal position. You have to fly across and destroy robots. This is a very simple task, but do not worry, the level gets harder. To beat this portion, just destroy the robots by holding down Y. If you get shot a lot, do not worry, as there are plenty of health pickups along the way. When you beat that, you will go to a stage that is like normal. First, defeat the flying enemy, an Elite. Just fly up and attack him. I strongly suggest always defeating the flying enemies first. Throw the Defender into the left pillar to reveal a red and yellow "S" icon. Another special crystal for you! Follow the arrow. An Elite will attack you. Defeat it. Another Elite will attack. Defeat it. And yet another Elite will attack you. Defeat it. Follow the arrow, then defeat the Elite. Defeat the second Elite. When the Elite is dead, go after the Defender. When he is destroyed, a second Defender will attack. Throw the Defender into the pillar on the right to reveal a 1up icon. Follow the arrow, and you will have to deal with three more Elites like you did last time. Defeat them, then follow the arrow. Defeat the Elite. Defeat the second Elite. That will just leave two Defenders. Throw one into the pipe in the middle to reveal a health icon. When they are defeated, follow the arrow. Pick up the health icon if you need too, then kill of the Elite. Kill off the second Elite as well. Then defeat his Defender friends. Follow the arrow once more. You will be taken inside the Cadmus Project. A Defender and an Elite will attack you. As usual, fly up and kill of the Elite first. Follow the arrow. You now have two Defenders to deal with. Get rid of them. That paves the way for an Elite and a Defender to attack you. Kill them. Follow the arrow, fly over the obstacle, then keep on walking forward. You will see a light blue "S" symbol. If you are low on health, you should pick it up. If not, wait until you defeat the on-screen enemies, which start as an Elite and a Defender. When they are done, you get two Defenders and another Elite to fight off. Follow the arrow. Defeat the two Defenders and the Elite. Then defeat the new Defender. Follow the arrow, fly over the obstacle, and continue to walk forward. You will see another light blue "S" icon. Same goes for this one as the one previously mentioned. Fend off the two Defenders and the Elite. Then fend off the two Defenders. Follow the arrow. You'll need to defeat the two Defenders. Then you get two more Defenders and an Elite. When they are done, follow the arrow. Now you get to fight the boss of this level, Sentinel. This guy has little balls surrounding him which shoot lasers. Immediately fly up and dodge the attacks. But maneuver around, since Sentinel can fly as well. Periodically, the balls disappear. This is your chance to attack. Normal punches and kicks should get the job done. Repeat this process until the level is done. -------------- Fearing that Doomsday might somehow reawaken, The Cyborg hurtles his body into deep space. LEVEL 4 THE LAST SON OF KRYPTON This level takes place in familiar scenery: Metropolis. But Metropolis has changed, as you will soon find out. In this level, you play as The Eradicator, The Last Son Of Krypton. You start out fighting some familiar faces: a Molotov and a ChainSaw. When they are gone, you need to get rid of the new Molotov. Follow the arrow and fly over the obstacle. Defeat the Molotov and the ChainSaw. Then defeat the second set of them. Follow the arrow, but fly up. You will notice the 1up symbol. Grab it! Fly down now, but be careful, as a ChainSaw is down there on a motorcycle. This motorcycle is different from the previous ones. When you shoot the ChainSaw off, the motorcycle will keep moving forward. Make sure it doesn't hit you! The instant you shoot the ChainSaw off, another ChainSaw and a Molotov will attack. Then another Molotov and ChainSaw will attack. Throw one of the enemies to the right window to reveal a light blue "S" symbol. Follow the arrow. Then fend off the Molotov and the ChainSaw. Throw one of the enemies at the left window to revel a red and blue "S" symbol, which will give you another special crystal. Then fight off the ChainSaw and the ChainSaw on the motorcycle. Get rid of the Molotov as well. Follow the arrow. Fight the ChainSaw and the Molotov. Throw one of them at the very left window to reveal another red and yellow "S" symbol. Then get rid of the two Molotovs and the ChainSaw. You will be taken to the next stage. Follow the arrow. Deal with the ChainSaw and the Molotov. Then defeat the second Chainsaw. Fly straight up and get the dark blue "S" symbol to replenish some of your health. Land, and follow the arrow. Finish off the Molotov and the ChainSaw. Finish off the second group consisting of a Molotov and a ChainSaw. Follow the arrow. Defeat the ChainSaw on the motorcycle and the Molotovs. Throw one of the bad guys at the right part of the garage to reveal a "1up" icon. After they are defeated, defeat the two new ChainSaws. Follow the arrow. Kill off the ChainSaw and the Molotov. Get rid of the ChainSaw on the motorcycle, the second ChainSaw, and the Molotov. Follow the arrow. Get rid of the ChainSaw and the Molotov. Then defeat the two Molotovs and the ChainSaw. Follow the arrow. You are now ready to fight the boss of Level 4: The Man Of Steel. The Man Of Steel is definitely the hardest boss you have fought so far. The best tactic to defeat The Man Of Steel is to constantly use jump kicks. Move around quickly, as his sledgehammer has a good range of motion. If you are able to, throw The Man Of Steel into the center wooden window to reveal a red and yellow "S" symbol. But the best tactic to use is the constant jump kicks. If you move fast enough, you should be able to defeat The Man Of Steel with not a lot of damage. -------------- "With a wave of my hand, I could destroy you, Man Of Steel." "It takes more than power to be Superman. It takes humanity and compassion." "Perhaps you are right. Go in peace, Man Of Steel. Together we shall watch over Metropolis." Meanwhile, an enormous spacecraft appears over Coast City. And destroys it completely!!! "I must go investigate the destruction of Coast City. LEVEL 5 AMBUSH AT COAST CITY Much like in LEVEL 3, you start off in the horizontal position (except with the Eradicator). You must defeat all of the robots that fly at you. Use the same tactics you did last time: hold down the Y button and fly around quickly, obtaining health whenever possible. After that portion of the stage is over, you land at the now-destroyed Coast City. The most obvious point I need to make is don't step on the bombs on the ground. First, fly up and defeat the Warworlder. Before you destroy the Warbot, knock the Razorback out of his hovercraft. Defeat the Warbot first. He uses his hook-arm to grapple you and pummel you into submission. Then defeat the Razorback. The Razorback attacks the same way that The Ticks attacked way back in LEVEL 1. Throw the Razorback into the rightmost pillar to reveal a red and yellow "S" symbol. Continuing on, you will encounter another Warworlder and a Warbot. Fly up and defeat the Warworlder first. After the Warworlder is defeated, another one and a Destroyer will appear. If need be, throw one of the enemies into the second pillar in order to get some extra health. Defeat the Warworlder. Go after the Warbot next, but make sure the Destroyer doesn't shoot you. After the Warbot has been eliminated, another Razorback appears in its hovercraft. Destroy the hovercraft, defeat the Destroyer, then go after the Razorback. Afterwards, continue going left. Go left in the middle of the screen, since there will be bombs on the upper and lower portion of the screen. Once you get there, bombs will start dropping from the air. Use the same technique to avoid them as you did to avoid the falling objects in LEVEL 1. After that, you will encounter a Razorback, a Warbot, and a Warworlder. Fly high to destroy the Warworlder while avoiding the Razorback. Throw one of your enemies at the rightmost pillar to pick up another Special Crystal icon. After all the enemies are defeated, a Warworlder and a Destroyer will appear. After you defeat the Warworlder, a Razorback and a Warbot will come to aid the Destroyer. Take out the Warbot first, then the Razorback, then the Destroyer. When the battle is over, continue left. You will once again have to avoid bombs falling from the air. When the bombs are done, continue forward. You now come to a boss fight. The boss is... The Cyborg! He's the one who destroyed Coast City. This is the hardest boss fight yet. The Cyborg is very vicious and attacks quickly. If you can manage to grab him, throw him into the rightmost pillar to get some health. You can also get some health from the middle pillar. The best strategy to defeat him is to walk from under him, grapple him, and throw him around. Another trick is to fly above the bombs on the ground, so he'll walk into the bombs. -------------- "With the Eradicator out of the way, my goal draws one step closer. Now to deal with the Superboy." LEVEL 6 THE METROPOLIS KID In this level, you play as Superboy. Get used to your new character by taking out the ChainSaw and the Molotov. After they're gone, take out the other Chainsaw. Continue on. You will encounter another ChainSaw and a Molotov. Throw one of your enemies in the left garage door to get another Special Crystal. Then take out the second Molotov and ChainSaw. Continue on. You will encounter two Molotovs and a ChainSaw on a motorcycle. Shoot down the ChainSaw from his motorcycle. Throw one of your enemies at the rightmost boarded window to get a 1up. After you defeat a second ChainSaw, move on. You'll have to contend with yet another ChainSaw and Molotov. Throw one of your enemies at the very left brick portion to receive some health. When they're defeated, you'll encounter a ChainSaw, a ChainSaw on a motorcycle, and a Molotov. Take care of the one on the motorcycle by shooting him off. Then defeat them. Continue moving left until you encounter, surprise, a ChainSaw and a Molotov. When they're gone, you'll have to fight two Molotovs and a Chainsaw. Continue forward to fight another ChainSaw and Molotov. Throw an enemy on the leftmost brick portion to receive some health. When they've been killed, you'll encounter a Molotov, a ChainSaw, and a ChainSaw on a motorcycle. As usual, take out the motorcycle, then defeat everyone. "The streets of Metropolis are safe once again.. "Now to go check out Coast City." You'll then be automatically taken to stage 2 of LEVEL 6, Coast City. This level strongly resembles LEVEL 5, except now you're playing as Superboy. First, fly up and take care of the Warworlder. Take down the Razorback from his hovercraft, and defeat the Razorback and the Warbot. Throw one of them into the middle pillar to gain some health, and throw one of them into the right pillar to get another Special Crystal. Continue left. You will encounter a Warworlder and a Warbot. Take out the Warworlder first. When he's done in, stay in the air since another Warworlder will attack you. When that one's been handled, take out the Warbot and the Destroyer. Then destroy the Razorback's hovercraft and then the Razorback itself. Continue on. More bombs will drop from the sky, so use the same tactics as before to avoid them. Continue on. Fly high to combat the Warworlder so you can evade the Razorback. Once the Warworlder is defeated, knock down the Razorback in the hovercraft, but fly back up so you can defeat the second Warworlder. Defeat the Warbot and the Razorback, then continue on. When you encounter the next group of baddies, fly up and take down the Warworlder first. Fly down, and take out the Warbot first. Fly back up and take out the Warworlder, then come back down and take out the Destroyer and Razorback. Continue forward. Time for another boss fight. Once again, you'll be facing off against the Cyborg. Use the same tactics as before to eliminate him. Also, throw him against the right (but not far right) pillar to get some health. "Where am I? And what's going on? "You are in what used to be Coast City, now Engine City. And you are witnessing the restructuring of your planet." "This is insane! You'll never get away with it." "I must proceed with my plans to erect a second Engine City in Metropolis. Goodbye for now, Superchild." "I must find a way to excape." I've got to warn the world." Meanwhile, among the polar ice caps far to the north of the Fortress of Solitude, a being flutters weakly back to life. Now we're at stage 2. It is yet another horizontal flying level. Use the same tactics as you normally do to get past it. -------------- News Flash!! A fifth hero has appeared claiming to be the real Superman. The Man of Steel has gone to investigate "Don't let the outfit fool you. I'm Superman and I'm back." "How do I know you're for real?" "Hey, we've got more important things to worry about. The Cyborg plans to use Engine City to take over the entire planet." "Not if I can help it." "What are we waiting for? Let's go." LEVEL 7 STEEL REIGN This level introduces you to The Man Of Steel. I dislike this level, but that's probably because it's the second hardest level in the entire game (the first being the final level, LEVEL 10). The first thing you'll notice once you start fighting your enemies (a Destroyer and a Warworlder) you'll notice that they appear out of the stovetop-like plates on the ground. Use your enemies and throw them on the plates to destroy them. If you don't, more enemies will keep reappearing. First thing to do is to fly up and fight the Warworlder. When he's knocked down, quickly use the Destroyer to destroy the plates on the ground, then fly back up and finish off the Warworlder. Go back down and finish the Destroyer. The right big tube as a Special Crystal icon, so try and get that as well. Continue on. Again, you will see three plates, and a Destroyer and a Warworlder will pop up. Use the same tactics as before to defeat them. Continue on. This time you will come across three plates, but a Warbot and a Razorback will appear from them. Use the Warbot to destroy the plates, while evading any attacks the Razorback might do. When the Warbot is gone, make sure to throw the Razorback into the big right tube to get an extra life. Continue on. Now you'll come across two plates. Use the Destroyer to destroy them, then fly up and defeat the Warworlder. Continue on. You'll come across three plates. Use the same strategy as last time. Be sure to throw the Destroyer into the left big tube to get a Special Crystal. When they are defeated, you'll get to stage 2. Fly down to the two plates and defeat the Warworlder and the Destroyer while destroying the plates. Continue on. Fly over the barrier to the three plates. A Warbot and a Warworlder will pop up. Do what you would normally do: take out the Warworlder, fly down and destroy the plates with the Warbot, take out the Warworlder, then finish the Warbot. Continue on. Fly down to where the three plates are. Defeat the Warworlder and Destroyer while breaking the plates. Throw an enemy into the big tube to receive some extra health. Continuing on, fly up the barrier to the area with three plates. Out comes a Warworlder and a Destroyer. You know what to do here. Go on, and fly down until you reach the area with four plates. A Warworlder and a Destroy greet you. Use your now habit-like strategy to defeat them. But before you do that, throw an enemy into the right big tube to get an extra life icon. -------------- "They're too late to stop the destruction of Metropolis. Launch the missile!" "Engine City has just launched a missile heading straight for Metropolis." "We've got to stop it." "No sweat. The Kid will handle this one." LEVEL 8 METROPOLIS: GROUND ZERO Once again, you are Superboy. The entire level is one of those horizontal flying levels. Your objective is to destroy the missile that The Cyborg has launched from Engine City. The first thing you'll have to destroy are the two engines. Always remember to stay as far back from everything as possible the entire level. Destroy the lower one first, then the upper one. Now you have to destroy the gun in the middle. But enemies keep coming at you, plus the gun shoots at you! So what should you do? Hold down the Y button, then keep on moving up and down. It's slow, it's tedious, but it's the safest way to get the job done. And don't worry: many health icons float your way. When the gun is destroyed, you'll move forward. Now you have to destroy a crystal thing AND a gun. Once again, hold down Y and fly up and down, making sure to grab health whenever possible. When those are destroyed, you'll advance further. You have to destroy another crystal and gun. Use the same tactics to destroy those. Level complete! This is the easiest level in the game, as well as the quickest. -------------- "Our only hope of destroying Engine City is to get to the engine's core." "But the city is powered by Kryptonite. If you're the real Superman, you won't survive. I'll go alone." "Good luck." LEVEL 9 THE ENGINE'S CORE There are very few enemies in this level. The main goal is to just get past all of the traps and obstacles that stand in your way. First thing you'll encounter is three Kryptonite rays. Wait until they turn off and fly past them. You'll then encounter Kryptonite balls flying from both the ceiling and the floor. When they stop, fly past them. Make sure you stay in the lower-middle portion of the screen to avoid getting hit. Maneuver past the Kryptonite dust generators by moving over and past them when they stop. Avoid the two Kryptonite rays after them. You'll come across a green barrier. Just give it a few whacks with your sledgehammer. Go through. Avoid the two Kryptonite dust generators, and destroy the second green barrier. Quickly avoid the Kryptonite balls, then fly low. Go inside the lower Kryptonite ball field, wait for it to turn off again, then quickly go through. Avoid the four Kryptonite dust generators and destroy another green barrier. Go past the three Kryptonite rays and the five Kryptonite dust generators. Destroy the green barrier. Fly high to avoid the first set of Kryptonite balls, then immediately fly low to avoid the second set. Fly high again to avoid the third. Go past the two Kryptonite dust generators and destroy another green barrier. Now you get to stage two, which is really more of the same thing. Go past the Kryptonite ray and dust generators. You'll encounter three balls in the form of a triangle. They shoot bullets at you. While they don't cause much damage and really are inconsequential, destroy it anyway. You'll encounter a few more of these throughout the level. Avoid two more dust generators, kill another one of the ball formations, and fly across the Kryptonite balls by going directly through the middle, then going down the second you get past them. Take out another ball formation, go past the three dust generators, and destroy another ball formation. Go past the two rays and the three generators, destroying any ball formations that you may encounter along the way. Go past the five or six rays, also destroying any ball formations. Avoid the dust generators. Move past the seven or eight rays and dust generators. Avoid the first set of Kryptonite balls by flying high, the second by flying low, and the third by flying high. Now you get to the boss. It looks like a skull with a gun on the top and a gun on the bottom. In actuality, it's The Cyborg possessing machine parts. Unfortunately, you're gonna get hurt in this boss battle, but not by much. Fly down and as quickly as you can, destroy the bottom gun. It'll shoot you maybe twice, but it doesn't deal a lot of damage. Then destroy the top one the same way. Then fly right under the face's nose. If you're in the right position, you'll avoid its eye beams while still being able to attack it. Quickly destroy it, avoiding the ball formations. Now only one more level. -------------- Meanwhile, far to the north in the Fortress of Solitude... A regenerated Eradicator streaks towards Engine City. LEVEL 10 THE RETURN OF SUPERMAN This is it, folks. The final level in the game. The first thing you'll see is the Eradicator standing in front of Superman. The Cyborg shoots the Eradicator with his laser in his arm. The Eradicator's power is transferred to Superman. Superman's abilities have been restored. And his old blue and red costume appears out of nowhere! Unfortunately, Superman doesn't have his long hair in this level. Anyway, be prepared... this is the toughest level of the entire game. Hopefully, you've saved your Special Crystals. You'll need them for the final battle against The Cyborg. After the little cinematic, the first thing you'll notice are the stovetop-like plates on the ground. Once again, you need to destroy them in order to stop any more bad guys from regenerating. You'll first be treated to a Destroyer, Warworlder, and a Warbot. Beat up the Warworlder, then quickly destroy the four plates. Fly up and finish off the Warworlder, then go down and take out the rest of your enemies. Throw one of them into the big left tube to get an extra life. Make that a priority. Continue on. Then you'll encounter a Warworlder, Razorback, and Warbot. Use the same tactics as before to clear this part. Throwing an enemy at the big left tube will give you some health. Continue on, and fly down. You'll encounter a Destroyer, Razorback, and Warworlder. Use the same tactics... make sure you destroy the four plates! Throw an enemy at the big left tube to get another Special Crystal. Continue on. Fly up the obstacle. You'll encounter a Razorback, Destroyer, and Warbot. Of course, destroy the three plates. Some health is smack dab in the middle, so if you need it, pick it up. If not, wait until you have cleared off all of the enemies, then take it. Continue on. Fly down. Now it's the battle you've been waiting for: the final showdown between Superman and The Cyborg. If you need the health which is right there, take it. If not, wait... chances are, you'll need it. Do not attempt to make this boss fight a brawl. Punching him will literally get you nowhere. The Cyborg is a lot faster than you. Your best hope is to move above or below him and attempt to grab him, then throw him. But be careful. Not only is he faster than you and a lot meaner than you, he also has Special Crystals as well. So be quick or else he'll bust out those Crystals. Once you wear him down, I suggest using whatever amount of Crystals you have left on him. But if you have none, just keep throwing him. If you lose a life, you'll come back. As you know, when you come back, you have temporary invincibility. Capitalize on that. You can get in a series of blows quickly without fear of getting hurt. But be quick! -------------- "You're the real thing all right." "Well done, Superman... And I do mean Superman." "The one and only." "Amazing. What I've experienced defies description. Doomsday killed me, and The Cyborg nearly destroyed the earth. The Eradicator brought me back to life and full power. I should feel tired... but I don't. I'm rejuvenated in a way I never thought possible. I have no idea what's coming next... But I know whatever it is, I'll be able to handle it better than ever!" ----- CODES ----- Yes, there are cheats in this game. Go to the options screen. Go to the sound test. I've been going on GameFAQs for well over two years, and I have contributed many reviews, codes, and game saves. I've only recently started with FAQs. Q. Why did you make a FAQ about this game? A. I used to be a big comic book fan, and this is one of the few 16-bit super hero games that don't stink. And since there wasn't a FAQ up for it, I decided to make it. I have to do something during the summer, ya know. Q. Do you recommend this game? A. Yes. Although I currently don't have a review up, I'd give this game an eight out of ten. It stays fairly true to the original storyline, and it's generally fun. Q. How does this game compare to the Genesis version? A. As with most games (with a few exceptions) when a game was released on both SNES and Genesis, the SNES version is better. This is no exception. The game is essentially the same, but the Genesis version has dulled-down backgrounds, colors, and sound. The game is generally the same, but the SNES version is prettier. I'd give the Genesis version a seven out of ten. Q. Would you write a FAQ for the Genesis version? A. Probably not. The actual gameplay content is practically identical to that of the SNES one. This one could really be used for both games. Q. Does this game stay true to the comic storyline from which the game is based? A. Yes and no. Most of the events are correct, but they omit a lot. They skip out on the big battle between Doomsday and the Justice League. They leave out the fact that Green Lantern and Supergirl accompanied Superman and The Man Of Steel to Engine City. Q. So should I go and buy the comic books then? A. Yes! The Death Of Superman, Funeral For A Friend, and the Reign of the Supermen storylines were excellent! You can buy them in graphic novel form at a decent price if you want to read the story. Q. Can I contact you? A. Of course! Email or IM me with your questions and comments. Please refrain from hate mail, flaming, and general idiocy. I welcome CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I will not answer questions if they've already been answered in the FAQ though. If you have any mistakes to point out, I'll be sure to give you credit in the FAQ if you want. Of course, I also accept compliments! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CREDITS In-Game dialogue taken DIRECTLY from the game.
