Superman Strip

July 28, 2009: Lee Bermejo Talk Superman "Wednesday Comics" Strip

USA Today has published an interview with artist Lee Bermejo in which he discusses his work on the Superman strip being published in the weekly "Wednesday Comics" publication and also on the USA Today website.

Q: How does John Arcudi's story affect the way you approach the artwork?

A: The script always affects the art. The pacing of the story the highs and the lows always affects what I do. The writing dictates shading and light, the overall mood and feel of the art. It sounds strange, but the more "boring" scenes in this story are the ones that really interested me the most. I love that purely Americana sense that you get from the Smallville scenes. It's very Norman Rockwell-ian. To Arcudi's credit, each week you're really seeing installments in an overall story. There's this brooding character at first, but readers will see that it fits into an overall story. The emotional aspect leads to something greater.

Q: Can you give a hint as to what might happen next in the story?

A: Things really, really start to pick up. I promise you, we are going to bring the house down! Stuff really kicks into overdrive! That's all I can say, though.
