August 7, 2007: Laura Vandervoort to Star in “Supergirl” TV Series?

The Advertiser newspaper in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland, Canada has published a report claiming that Laura Vandervoort's grandfather (a local hockey legend) has revealed that his granddaughter recently found out she'll be starring as Supergirl in her own TV series.

Laura Vandervoort, 22, is the granddaughter of Fred Sanger, a local hockey legend from Grand Falls-Windsor who went on to play Junior 'A' hockey with the Quebec Citadelles. She recently found out she would be starring in the show Supergirl, which is a spin-off from Smallville, the hit show that brings a new interpretation of the Superman myth.

Ms. Vandervoort's character Kara (a.k.a. Supergirl) is Clark Kent's strong-willed cousin from Krypton. She will first be introduced on Smallville before branching off onto her own show.

We'll keep you posted regarding any official word on this possible new TV series.

Thanks to TalOs for the lead on this story.

UPDATE: We've received official word from Al Gough, co-creator of "Smallville", regarding this story. Al says, "No plans at this moment, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities, let's see how the character is received in the show first." So it seems either The Advertiser or Laura's grandfather jumped the gun.
