October 22, 2007: Mark Millar Wants to Write New Superman Movie Script

On the back of today's report from Variety regarding Dan Harris and Mike Dougherty not returning to pen the next Superman movie script, writer Mark Millar posted the following message on his website forum...

Revamping this franchise is what I was given fingers for and so, invited or not, I'm putting my plan together now. I've been asked to work on half a dozen screenplays lately, but this is the only one I have ever truly wanted.

As most here know, I have literally hundreds of pages of notes and sketches just waiting for this opportunity. This would be my dream gig and, as a fan, I know exactly what this project needs to work. This has to be Superman for the 21st Century, keeping everything we adore, but starting from scratch and making the kids love it as much as the 30-somethings. I would honestly write this thing for free.

Millar, a long-time Superman fan and writer on many Superman comics over the years, would be an excellent replacement in my opinion. Back in 1999 I wrote an article for this website titled "How to make a Superman movie" and in it stated that the powers that be check out "some of Mark Millar's work on Superman Adventures, like issues 11 and 12 ('The War Within' 2-part storyline where Superman was dying from a Kryptonian virus) and issue 36 (where Superman, busy as he was saving planes, rescuing people, etc... still found time to locate a little boy's lost dog)."
