October 6, 2006: Adam Kubert Talks “Action Comics”

The Pulse caught up with artist Adam Kubert to ask him about his 6-issue stint on "Action Comics" with Geoff Johns and Richard Donner. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: What's it like working with Geoff Johns and Richard Donner - are you having a blast with them? Is it like a collaborative effort when you get the scripts?

KUBERT: The scripts I receive from Geoff are pretty complete, but as with all stories, there's room for interpretation. Geoff and I have an excellent working relationship. And, if something doesn't seem to work right, I'll call him and we'll talk it out. That's really an exciting process for me. I can't say enough good things about working with Geoff.

I don't have any direct contact with Richard Donner, but Geoff relays messages to me. I met him for the first time this past Comic-Con in San Diego. The three of us did a signing together. He was so personable. He took the time to talk to every person that came in front of him. Great guy ... very down to earth.

Q: Everyone has an idea of how Superman should look, so how do you determine that?

KUBERT: I'm just trying to get my drawing to look "right." If it has a certain look that's just how I draw him. I'm not trying to figure out my take on Superman, it just kind of comes out through trying to get the drawing right.
