Wizard Magazine #174

February 24, 2006: Earth-2 Superman in Wizard Magazine #174

Wizard Magazine issue 174 (April 2006) is out now and features the Earth-2 Superman on the cover crushing two Earths together, with the headline "Inside the Secret Plot to Destroy the DC Universe: Superman or Madman?"

Inside there's a story on the behind-the-scenes of putting together DC's ongoing crossover event, "Infinite Crisis", the fifth issue of which will be released next Wednesday. This article looks back at least three years to events like the original death of Donna Troy in Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day #3, the downfall of President Luthor from Superman/Batman's first six-issue arc, and what turned out to be a shadowy first appearance of bad guy Maxwell Lord in Superman Secret Files 2004.

The article also features interview comments from DC creators Geoff Johns, Judd Winick, Jeph Loeb, Mark Waid, Greg Rucka, Bill Willingham, Andy Diggle, and Gail Simone. "Infinite Crisis" writer Johns is asked what exactly the crossover event is fixing about Superman, and Johns replies: "Stories with Superman sitting and talking to Lois for 15 minutes or questioning stuff. We want to build him up to be a bigger, stronger, tougher hero. He's not going to ask if he hit you too hard."

Wizard also reveals that Adam Kubert will be pencilling Action Comics beginning with issue 841. Kubert teases that the two writers for his run on the industry's longest-running comic book "are 'unbelievable'".

Wizard also looks at the big players of the upcoming "52" including recent Metropolis resident The Question and John Henry Irons, the once and future Steel. Also, there's a whimsical examination of the less than politically correct ways of the Golden Age Earth-2 Superman early on his career.

Finally, Wizard includes their suggestions for which other DCU heroes should be journeying to TV's "Smallville" and who should play each of them.
